Therapy can provide a space to tap into our inner resilience, have a sense of connectedness, and sort out our thoughts. I strive to create an atmosphere of support where you feel able to explore your mind, work through life's challenges, as well as gain insight and skills along the way. My approach includes mindfulness, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), compassion based therapy, and trauma informed care to help those seeking long or short term therapy. I highly value the presence of validation, trust, humor, and compassion in a therapeutic relationship .

Therapy is a different experience for everyone, and to facilitate the best therapeutic relationship we must look at what makes you who you are. I approach therapy as a space for healing that encourages your confidence and comfort in being your authentic self. We will work together to identify the best strategies for you that will empower you to meet your goals, whether that means coming into your identity with confidence, strengthening your relationships, or addressing roadblocks in your life. The therapy experience should be reflective of where you stand and will encourage you to step into your own empowerment.

The most important factor for success in therapy is the relationship you have with your therapist.
No matter the struggle everyone has the capacity for self-empowerment and to enhance the quality of their lives. People seek therapy for many different reasons: mental health, existential questions, old wounds, and the problems of everyday living. Whatever your reason, I will partner with you to turn toward your distress and cultivate conditions that lead to insight and healing. My approach is client-centered and recognizes the complexity of the human experience. I promote an understanding of your own mind, self-determination, and the development of evidence-based skills that can help you respond more effectively to your challenges.

Some of human suffering is about the way we experience the events of our lives rather than the things themselves. Therapy offers an opportunity to bring awareness to our experiences and change our relationship to them rather than try to change the events themselves. Through this approach, we gain a sense of control in our lives and positively experience and influence its direction. If we believe that we have power within us to achieve health and happiness, then the events in our lives that cause us pain and suffering can be seen as an opportunity to learn about ourselves and experience personal growth.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
