My work is supportive of straight, same sex, and mixed orientation couples, consensual non-monogamy, polyamorous relationships, and kink communities.
As a Marriage and Family Therapist and Sex Therapist, I have specialized training in working with couples, families, and individuals. I work closely with my clients as they navigate relational changes such as loss of intimacy, emotional distance, betrayal, family conflict, parenting concerns, separation, divorce, and blended-family issues. I encourage my clients to openly talk about their feelings while constructively working toward greater closeness and intimacy with their loved ones. I believe that the quality of the relationship between therapist and client(s) is the foundation for gratifying therapeutic growth and change.

My practice is proudly gay-owned, sex-positive, and affirming of sexuality, kink , gender, and relationship diversity.
Many of us can find ourselves feeling misunderstood or emotionally isolated, even within the communities we connect with the most. This is especially true for those of us with histories of trauma, insecurity, and marginalization. I get it…I’ve been there too! My virtual practice provides a judgement-free space where every part of you is welcome. As an attachment-informed psychotherapist and AASECT certified sex therapist, I specialize in helping clients with concerns related to childhood trauma or abuse, low self-esteem, social-relational anxiety or avoidance, and sexuality.

Therapy should be more than just talk. I offer more than just a safe space to talk about your feelings. I offer ways to truly become connected to your feelings and integrate what you learn about your feelings in therapy into your daily life. If you are overwhelmed with work, parenting, feel betrayed or hurt in the relationships, feel disconnected from others, maybe you sense a hopelessness around world events and/or maybe just want to learn more about who you are: we will work together to understand who you are, what is really good for you and what you want out of life. When you are with me, you belong, you matter, you are safe.

As social beings we want connection with others. Sometimes obstacles prevent us from these healthy connections. It is my belief that the task of looking inward and identifying (awareness) these obstacles is the first step to change. The second step is to embrace what we find (acceptance). Once we identify and accept what prevents us from feeling content, a sense of accountability settles in and enables change (action). My role is to work with you by exploring your thoughts/feelings from the perspective you've have adopted and provide you with alternative tools and an objective perspective to foster growth and transcendence.

Therapy assists in uncovering the true self. Learning how to recognize feelings enables people to understand themselves more effectively. During therapy individuals learn how to identify feelings and take control of their own lives. By learning how to pay attention to instincts and begin to challenge beliefs individuals can grow instead of stagnate. We promote personal growth and the establishment of healthy communication so our clients can achieve serenity within themselves.

My work combines psychoanalytic therapy with helping people learn how to listen to the unique and creative way in which our body carries wisdom, information and unprocessed experiences. It is important for us to tell the story of what has happened to us and to have our stories held in a compassionate manner. If we already know our story and find ourselves still stuck in old behaviors, thoughts and patterns, then learning to listen and experience how our bodies hold meaning for what's still unresolved or unknown is a valuable skill.

EMAIL ONLY, PLEASE. When we meet, it is in the forefront of my mind that making initial contact and coming to an appointment with a therapist can be daunting. In our work together, you are the experts on your experience. I use genuine curiosity and empathy to gain a true understanding of what is going on. Together, we can discuss how my experience and training can assist you. Therapy is not "one size fits all," and I encourage clients to be open in sessions about what is working (and perhaps more importantly, what is not!).

Sex-Positive, Kink Allied Therapists

Why might an individual want to see a sex-positive, kink-allied therapist?

A sex-positive or kinky individual may want to see a sex-positive, kink-allied therapist because the client may feel safer and more supported discussing their experiences and challenges. A therapist who identifies as kink-friendly will have experience with clients having diverse sexual preferences and will likely be nonjudgmental and supportive about issues brought to the table. It is important to note that sex-positive, kink-allied individuals may find equal success with therapists who do not have such specialized knowledge and background. The most important factor in the success of therapy is for the client and practitioner to form a strong, trusting bond.

Do therapists have special training to gain expertise in sex-positive, kink-allied treatment?

Generally, no. There are limited training programs and unofficial accreditations that therapists can pursue, but a therapist’s expertise will ultimately come from their previous experience with similar clients, their engagement with organizations that promote sex positivity or kink-allied lifestyles, and the importance they place on safety and cultural sensitivity.

How can individuals recognize a good sex-positive, kink-allied therapist?

An experienced therapist is able to help clients explore their sexual identity and expression and relieve any discomfort or stigma attached to discussing such matters and the client’s overall challenges. A therapist who is sex-positive and kink-allied is able to create an environment that honors a client’s experience and sexual preferences. To recognize a good therapist, clients can simply ask directly about topics and issues important to them and gauge their comfort level and connection with a clinician based on the responses.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist with a focus on sex positivity and alternative sexual lifestyles?

Some individuals may feel most comfortable knowing that the clinician they’re working with has a commitment to creating an atmosphere of sex positivity and has experience with relationship diversity and alternative relationship structures. Working with a sex-positive, kink-allied therapist may help clients respect their own challenges and improve identity-affirming treatment.
