I have practiced psychotherapy for over 25 years and love what I do every day. My approach when working with individuals, families and couples is collaborative, dynamic, creative and often humorous. I utilize a variety of therapeutic techniques, including cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic treatment and
family
systems therapy, depending on the needs and wishes of each patient or patients whom I treat. I feel honored and privileged to not only have the people I treat share their struggles, achievements, hopes and dreams, but to facilitate and witness their process as they make positive changes in their lives.

These problems frequently stem from workplace stress,
family
/relationship difficulties, physical illness, as well as other life cycle stressors and changes that can, and do challenge our ability to cope throughout the adult life cycle.
I have been practicing for 30+ years, and I am committed to working with you collaboratively, to create a therapeutic environment that is safe and one which recognizes that it takes courage to begin to address one's pain. My training is eclectic, which allows me to find the best way to help you to feel yourself, again, whether that may include cognitive behavioral therapy, insight-oriented, psychodynamic therapy, relaxation/mindfulness training or some other therapeutic path to personal change.

Some of the issues my ideal client would be dealing with would be lacking information on community resources, self-knowledge,
family
dynamics, self-regulation techniques, and would be probably dealing with fear and nervousness to deal with everyday situations. Goals for this client would be to decrease anxiety/depressive symptoms by being more in control of emotions and behaviors to the point autonomy and self-control are increased and therapy is not necessary anymore. This client would want to be more in control of his/her thoughts and behaviors because he/she probably feels like a victim of the system.

The ideal client typically has
family
or interpersonal relationship conflicts and/or poor boundaries. Also, at times the ideal client has a history of childhood trauma or childhood conflicts that the client has not processed. I would process their
family
/interpersonal relationship conflicts and trauma/conflicts and create healthy coping skills to cope with these issues. Also, I would want to explore with the client what the client considers healthy and unhealthy boundaries and be able to create healthier boundaries in these relationships.

I have 23 years of training and experience working with adults who struggle with low self-esteem, imposter syndrome, anxiety, depression, bipolar, and anger. I'm also very experienced with clients working on transitions such as going to college, new job, marriage, starting a
family
, a divorce, or coping with a past or recent trauma. I've worked for many years in drug treatment too. I think clients are looking for a way to gain insight and awareness of how challenges effect their thinking, and want to learn new skills to improve how they feel and function in the world.

Family therapy
assists in bringing issues out into the open to minimize frustration and maximize connections between
family
members.
Therapy assists in uncovering the true self. Learning how to recognize feelings enables people to understand themselves more effectively. During therapy individuals learn how to identify feelings and take control of their own lives. By learning how to pay attention to instincts and begin to challenge beliefs individuals can grow instead of stagnate. We promote personal growth and the establishment of healthy communication so our clients can achieve serenity within themselves.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
