I work with children ages 4 through 21 who demonstrate a range of neurodevelopmental (e.g., ADHD, learning disabilities, language disorders, etc.), psychiatric (e.g., anxiety disorders, OCD, depression, etc.), or medical concerns (e.g., diabetes, congenital heart defects, neurofibromatosis, childhood cancers, etc.).
My approach to assessment stems from my training in child development, brain-behavior relationships, neurodevelopmental disorders, pediatric psychology, and child/adolescent mental health. I completed a Pediatric Neuropsychology Fellowship at NYU Langone Child Study Center and a Pediatric Neuropsychology Internship at The University of Chicago.

I work well with individuals and families and can assist with a wide variety of problems that people face throughout their lives; marital/relationship difficulties, learning and school challenges, parenting struggles, major life events, and the depression and anxiety that often accompany all of life's ups and downs.
I work well in a variety of capacities, and particularly in areas of life transitions (going away to college, divorce, birth, death, loss of job, or relationship, illness, etc). I work to help people make sense and process what they're going through, without judgement, and reflect back to them empathy and hopefully a way to work through their struggle.

As a clinical psychologist, I have devoted my career to supporting the social-emotional development of children and adolescents. While the specific focus of therapy is individualized according to each child’s needs, much of the work I do centers around helping individuals develop self-awareness, healthy relationships, problem solving skills, and the ability to identify, regulate, and express emotions adaptively. I also regularly collaborate with parents to identify and address patterns of behavior and communicate with their children more effectively.

I engage in ongoing learning to make sure that I stay on top of the latest research based strategies to help my clients.
As they say on an airplane, "place your oxygen mask on first before assisting others". It’s hard to care for children, parents, friends or family, if you’re not first caring for yourself. I welcome any client who is looking to help themselves. Whether you are struggling with anxiety or depression, your self-esteem and social relationships aren’t where you’d like them to be, parenting effectively feels nearly impossible, or anything in between, I’m here to help. I began working with children in schools and developed a love for supporting the adults who care for them.

Feeling connected to and understood provides the foundation for any healthy relationship, including the therapeutic relationship. It is my goal to provide a supportive, trusting and non-judgmental environment in order to foster greater self-awareness, insight and personal growth and fulfillment. One parent of a 13-year old client said: "During one of the darkest and most difficult times in our lives, in you came ready to listen, guide, support, and be a beacon of light in an otherwise dark time. My son immediately felt safe with you and trusted you. That is a true gift and says so much about you both personally and professionally."

It takes courage to seek help. I applaud you for making it this far. I am a lifespan LPC and expressive arts therapist. My work is primarily with children (and families), adolescents and young adults, though I do additionally see adults individually as well as couples. Parents and individual clients alike often come to me with concerns of anxiety, depression, self-regulation, behavioral issues, performance challenges (school, sports, work, etc.), and life transitions, just to name a few. I largely utilize mindfulness-based techniques as it is only with present awareness that we can change our lived experiences.

Education and Learning Disabilities Therapists
How effective is treatment for learning disabilities?
When initiated early and tailored to a child’s specific needs, learning disability treatment can be quite effective at helping a child cope with their disability, though its exact efficacy may depend on the severity of symptoms and whether comorbid disorders exist. Less is known about treatment initiated in adulthood, but it is certainly possible that an adult with a learning disability will see some improvement—or at the very least, identify workarounds and accommodations that could make symptoms less burdensome in day-to-day life.

When should someone seek treatment for learning disabilities?
It’s best to seek treatment as early as possible. Because learning disabilities often go unnoticed until a child starts school, or even until they’re a few years along, regular check-ins with teachers and doctors can help parents determine whether children are meeting milestones and keeping up with peers or whether an evaluation for learning disabilities may be warranted. And although earlier is always better, it’s never too late to be evaluated for learning disabilities and to seek treatment.

What happens if learning disabilities are left untreated?
Undiagnosed and untreated learning disabilities can be a source of significant frustration and shame for a child, who may feel that their challenges stem from a lack of intelligence or willpower. Such feelings can trigger low self-esteem, depression, or anxiety, which may push a child toward risky behaviors, including substance use. In adulthood, untreated learning disabilities can interfere with career success, and lingering feelings of self-doubt and shame can negatively affect someone’s mental health.

Are there medications for learning disabilities?
Currently, there are no medications designed to treat specific learning disabilities such as dysgraphia or dyscalculia. However, someone with a learning disability may be prescribed medication for a comorbid condition, such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD, which may have positive downstream effects on their learning disability; for example, a child with both ADHD and dyslexia may find that they’re better able to focus on their reading exercises after being prescribed a stimulant medication.
