I work with older teenagers and adults experiencing conflict, which can contribute to anxiety, depression, and adjustment issues. Many of my clients are in transitional life phases when miscommunications and disagreements are most likely to emerge—especially with loved ones. I offer practical skills for communicating through conflict so clients can fully express themselves, feel understood, and use the situation as an opportunity to build the relationship.

Whether you are dealing with a lack of intimacy, frequent miscommunication, challenges with extended family, or simply preparing to take the "next step" in your relationship via marriage and/or parenthood, we all experience moments when we could use an empathetic ear. The honesty of someone who is able to both challenge and support us may be all we need to achieve our relationship goals. I love collaborating with couples in a compassion-filled process influenced by Gottman Couples Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy. With each couple, I work to create a safe and welcoming space for clients to bring their whole selves to session.

Life is filled with times of transition and times of change. This couldn't be more true than for the life of a child or an adolescent. School stressors, personal identity, family separations, forming healthy friendships, and an overwhelming desire for acceptance are all things that a child or adolescent may deal with regularly. In these moments it is crucial for a young person to feel understood and listened to in order to be helped. Coming alongside a young person in whatever place they may be residing in is where my heart resides. Many times this age group can be overlooked or misunderstood, but their needs still remain.

As a nonbinary, transmasculine therapist who has lived experience and advanced education & training working with the marginalized and oppressed, specifically LGBTQIA+ adolescents, adults & their loved ones, I listen first and speak second. As human beings, we need connection to develop, cope, and thrive. Through an integrative approach tailored to your situation, I work from an attachment-based starting point where judgment has no place in the therapeutic relationship. This allows us to build trust and space for you to develop healthy autonomy in therapy and life. Whatever the reason you came upon my profile, I welcome you!

My work is attachment-based and emotionally-focused.
I am incredibly passionate about accompanying couples in their journey together. As a practitioner for over 20 years, what continues to inspire my work is witnessing the incredible power of therapy on people’s lives. Working alongside couples to identify patterns that obstruct the flow of understanding, empathy, and love is a top priority of my approach. Because couples work is collaborative, my role as a therapist is to help strengthen the couple’s capacity to repair conflict even and especially when the couple is not in session.

You have had days that make you feel like switching off the sun, crawling underneath your skin, and checking out from this catastrophic cantankerous world. You have been emotionally shipwrecked by life, fragmented by negative experiences, and you feel broken beyond repair. Yesterday was too much, today you're drowning in the sea of despair; and, tomorrow should not see the light of day. Existing feels like too much to ask, survival seems impossible, and you're thinking, "I can't do this..." Maybe you can't, but we can, and we will. You may feel alone, but you are not alone. You may sway and bend, but you will never break.

Hello! I currently see patients that are ages 5+. Trauma is considered my specialty area of practice and I am certified in EMDR therapy. I do see private pay clients but can also see insurance clients through other platforms. The platforms only operate with certain insurance carriers. Unfortunately, I am unable to add multiple links so to get the link associated with your state and insurance, you must email me your contact information. I also offer an individual message based service which is described more in groups. It is not a group but this is the only section it can be described in with Psychology Today.

I have had the pleasure of working with a varied clientele. For many years I have built rapport with and facilitated the progress of youth who are on the spectrum, who have attention disorders, who struggled with emotion regulation, who are mute, who are transgender, and have exhibited self-harming behaviors. I have also worked with families as a parent coach and as a provider of psycho-education. Many of my adult clients have had issues with abandonment, attachment, trauma, and self-harm. The goals I have facilitated my clients progression in are myriad. However, one goal most of my clients aspire to attain is self-love.

In a city where millions of people pretend to be someone they are not, an authentic self might be the most luxurious thing for one to own and celebrate. However, I believe that we can still make it without having to fake it. I am here to hold space for you to express, explore, and embrace yourself. By creating a judgment-free, gender-expansive, sex-positive, poly-affirming, and kink-friendly environment, I hope to help you transform moments of challenge into opportunities for empowerment.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
