I can help you with relationship issues, depression, anxiety, grief, family conflict, marital conflict, family violence (including domestic violence), parenting issues, adolescent issues, career issues, substance use, and many, many others.
Hope. Healing. Understanding. You deserve to live a fulfilling life with healthy relationships and satisfying life choices. I look forward to helping you along that journey. It is natural and common to be "blocked" or "stuck" as one travels through life's challenges. It is normal to feel sad, frustrated, confused... to feel like no one understands what you are going through, even a partner or your family members. I am an experienced clinician who has successfully helped many individuals, couples and families understand the barriers to meeting their needs and identify the ways and means to move forward.

The relationship between a client and therapist is a partnership, with every person having unique needs. I understand that therapy is not a one-size fits all process and that's why I utilize a client-centered approach. Working together as partners, we can find the most effective approach that will help you reach your treatment goals. It is often negative thinking patterns that get in the way of creating meaningful and lasting change. I will help you create the life you want by letting go of unhelpful beliefs and feel empowered in making life choices.

Therapy for individuals, couples , or families should be a safe space to explore personal needs and goals. Using a broad lens we consider all of the factors and systems as we work collaboratively and with transparency towards strengthening your sense of yourself and the relationships that are impacting you. We consider cycles of interaction as well as vulnerabilities and survival strategies and areas where you may be getting stuck in long repetitive cycles. Together we identify new strategies and strengths to create new experiences. Therapy can be a strengthening journey of opportunity and growth.

My ideal client is mid 30's to early 60's. These are people in life transitions, whether career, relationship or soul searching. Probably experiencing stress and anxiety or self doubt. Want to follow their hearts, interests and talents so that they can fulfill themselves in life, love, work and relationships. They want to modify or completely change careers, friends or leave an unrewarding relationship . They're looking for help in growing beyond an impasse while wanting to develop to the next level in their lives. They need compassion and clear but kind guidance to move forward.

Having trained at accredited family therapy institutes, I partner with even the most reluctant family members to help restore love, meaning and stability to troubled couples and children.
I value building a supportive alliance that is based on honesty and frank communication. I have received excellent training from mental health experts in three major hospitals in the NYC area. My approach is psychoanalytic integrated with cognitive behavioral, emotionally focused and mindfulness approaches. Most importantly, we talk together to find out what works best for you. I am especially well suited to working with trauma victims, couples and families, and those with an interest in the bodymind perspective. Years spent living abroad inspired an interest in cross cultural dynamics and diversity.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
