I am offering compassionate, solution focused and at times existential therapy for those struggling with life transitions of identity and meaning. Whether identifying as transgender or gender non-conforming, the conversation in my office will assist you in how to move forward, regardless of age. It is not unusual that depression and anxiety is tied into ones gender and sexual identity. Sexual health is part of our being. Come explore what hasn't been discussed prior regarding your sexual self, whether alone or with your partner/spouse.

My ideal client is a person who is diagnosed with both a mental health and substance abuse issue, here we can explore whether the pattern of substance abuse relates to the mental health symptoms or if the symptoms of the psychiatric issue is one of the causes for increased substance abuse. Having the ability to explore and implement evidence based clinical interventions, as well as offering support, during their early recovery process, has been rewarding to witness. I have been working in the mental health and substance abuse field for 20+ years.

Clients issues vary. Their needs are usually similar; someone whom can genuinely listen to them without judgment and provide them with the tools to deal with the "stuff" they have to deal with. I think clients want to be heard and be validated in their feelings.

The ideal client for me are the women who recently became aware that they have been the victim of narcissistic abuse. These clients have suffered years of gaslighting and emotional abuse. They come to therapy sad, confused, scared and angry. They are usually caught between the undeniable facts and the fantasy of who they thought their partner was. Initially, these clients are not sure what they need or want as they are unable to identify and express either. Many of these women are codependent so their needs and wants are whatever their partner's are.

Honestly, you've probably looked through many provider profiles by now and are wondering who to pick. It can be a tough decision and so I offer a 30 minute screening phone call to help decide if we would be a good fit for each other. I'll answer any questions that you may have and will refer you to another provider if I believe that they will be better suited to meet your mental health needs. I am person-centered and will be happy to serve you along this journey, making sure that your wants and needs are heard and making sure that you are the priority in your own treatment.

From an early age, I became aware of the range of mental health challenges that women face. Through the years, I also saw the stresses upon women who were dealing with marital issues, divorce, single parenthood, financial and work difficulties, the loss of loved ones, emotional turmoil, and family discord. Are you struggling with life’s challenges? My experience and insight have allowed me to develop skills to assist you with guidance and support as you take steps to move forward with your life. This could include individual therapy and counseling for the dynamics of couples and other family relationships.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
