I work with a broad range of adolescent and adult clients.
I approach treatment as a collaboration between two partners, working together to deepen our understanding of your concerns, and construct alternative ways of thinking, being, relating and feeling. As a relational psychodynamic therapist, I consider our relationship an essential mechanism of change.

I'm moved by the longing of couples to be to be listened to with undivided attention, to be understood and accepted, to be seen in their virtues and appreciated, to be held with affection and delight, to be allowed to be themselves and shift from it's all about me to you need all the same things. Your criticism and force can step back when I help you care about your own wounds - that your partner can respect, but cannot heal for you. I walk with confounded parents to calm their reactions to their children's resistance. They feel ignored, failing to raise a caring and responsible son or daughter. Heart is heavy, values seem irrelevant. Unburden the heart so your children can hear your values, not your reactions. Couple and family difficulties have roots in old hurts where we managed with knee jerk reactions and attitudes of how things should be. I can help you hold perspective, where you value yourself when others discredit you, where you're open to feedback about what is not helpful without feeling criticized or angry. Therapy is not getting partners or children or peers to respond, it's being able to bring my values with conviction without being attached to the outcome

Need a good listener? Someone to talk to? Great! I'm really good at that but it's not what my default setting. I'm very action-oriented because that's where change solidifies for us. My main population is folks with ADHD, who tend to be doers. We folks with ADHD are creative and adaptive but sometimes we get stuck. And when we get stuck we get really stuck! I work with people ready to build awareness of their situations with the goal of increasing engagement with the life they want.

Far too often we are weighed down by heavy emotions; intrusive thoughts and conditioned patterns. Through my varied experience I have been able to witness firsthand--that even in the most dire circumstances positive change is possible. My philosophy is to provide you with patience; positivity and pragmatism while varying the therapeutic approach to fit your current needs. To foster motivation and facilitate insight, I utilize a combination of strength-based techniques. I also believe in the significance of incorporating your interests and creativity (e.g. art, music, theatre and humor) into sessions.

It is with great pleasure that I have practiced with individuals of all ages for the last 25 years. I enjoy building trust in the therapeutic relationship-even with those who are resistant or not sure if therapy is for them. Accompanying individuals on their journey to self-discovery and witnessing their transformation is an enormous privilege of my job. People come to therapy looking to "fix" things. We forget that often we contain the solution to our problems, but that the solutions are buried under the residue of stressful life events, trauma and loss.

I greatly value the therapeutic relationship and believe it is one of the most important components of therapy. I pull from evidenced-based practices such as CBT and DBT and focus on a trauma-informed approach. I've been working with adolescents and adults for 5 years and have experience working with individuals enduring anxiety, depression, trauma, and substance use. I see a wide range of clients from ages 13-65+. I am committed to supporting and validating my clients while creating a safe and non-judgmental environment.

I am passionate about helping people reach their full potential both inside and outside of the bedroom. Some of the work I do with individuals includes addressing dating & relationship concerns, healing from past trauma, working through anxiety & mood disorders, and exploring sexuality. With couples I often help navigate conflict, deepen emotional & sexual intimacy, enhance communication, explore consensual non-monogamy, and heal from past infidelity. I am particularly passionate about helping couples work through trust issues, sexual incompatibility, and intimacy/attachment concerns, as well as doing pre-marital counseling.

It is possible to feel better, to see change, and to regain confidence, control and balance in your family and your life. As a therapist working with adults, teens, and parents, I am relaxed, practical, and hands-on. My approach is direct and effective, focused on increasing the "tool box" of skills you, your family, or your child can use in difficult situations. Working together, we will set goals based on your immediate concerns, problem-solve solutions, try out new ways to think about and handle your problems, and we will make changes that are lasting.

I value creating a strong therapeutic relationship with my clients and encourage a non-judgmental space, where you can speak freely about what is occurring and can truly understand that you are not alone. As Ram Dass stated, “We’re all just walking each other home.” I have experience working with adolescences, adults, couples, and families. I work with an array of ages, with a focus on depression, anxiety, behavioral and familial issues, relationship/couple issues, LGBTQ+ issues, grief/loss, PTSD, chronic health issues, and severe and persistent mental illness.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
