Using my own
EFT
-based model called "Marital R&R" - Marital Rupture and Repair - I work with my clients towards achieving these natural human longings in their relationship.
All relationships rupture...but not all relationships repair. A couple's ability to safely and effectively repair their ruptures, and heal their pain, is an essential ingredient to any healthy long-term connection. In my office, I meet a great variety of people and relationship types; some are merely dating, while others are already engaged, or have begun the marital journey... and yet others are anywhere from 10-50 years into their marriage. What unites them all is the great human need and desire to feel understood, seen, safe, loved, and held.

Hi, my name is Lin. Therapy is a unique and extremely individualized experience. There is a therapeutic power in being fully seen and understood. Others seem to think you are holding it together and doing good, but sometimes you feel like an imposter. These feelings keep you from forming deep connections with your loved ones, furthering your career, or living your life the way you wish. Having a designated safe space for you to share scary, confusing, or “bad” thoughts can be freeing.

Footprints to Feel Better
Licensed Professional Counselor
Verified

Footprints was started by a therapist who realized that often times the services provided to low socio-economic communities is lacking quality care. We noticed these communities where confronted with long wait times, disrespectful admins, and subpar treatment. The one and only purpose was to exploit the community for profit without providing the level of care deserved. Footprints began from the inspiration to provide quality mental health care to the poorest of communities and treating the clients of this community the same way a rich patient would be treated in a clinic treating affluent clients.

When I first began my practice, I thought that the most important word in marriage was love. A few years later, I changed my mind and concluded that the most important word in marriage was trust. After yet another few years, I changed my mind once again and decided that the most important word in marriage was vulnerability. While I still think today that vulnerability is the most essential component in an intimate partnership, I believe that it needs to be viewed through an attachment lens and can only be exercised in a safe environment. In my practice, I try to create a warm and safe environment where vulnerability thrives.

Emotionally Focused Therapists
Who is emotionally focused therapy for?
Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.
Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?
People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.
What happens in emotionally focused therapy?
Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.
What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?
EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
