I enjoy working with children , adolescents, and families. Parents have questions about what they, and their child , are going through. I am able to provide answers through psychoeducation and years of experience. Children with behavior issues in school or at home or adolescents with new behaviors and problems with grades or social issues. These are the families I get to help through very stressful times. Improving the quality and functioning of individuals and families through improved communication, learning parenting techniques, advocacy, and providing CBT to help with anxiety, depression, and/or behavior and educational problems.

Children , adolescents, and families have been my focus in therapy for almost 20 years. Whether the presenting issue is related to family relationships, school, self-injury, a mood disorder, oppositional/defiant behaviors, problems with attention, substance abuse, thought disorders, or any combination of the aforementioned, I am energized by those who seek guidance along their life journey. I am humbled by others' willingness to share their experiences, encouraged by the strength of character exhibited in the pasts they survive and overcome, and am in awe of the resiliency demonstrated in the face of adversity.

I have extensive experience working with all ages ( children , adolescents, adults, and families) who suffer from a wide range of symptoms that stem from depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, substance use issues, obsessive-compulsive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, school avoidance, and those attempting to overcome traumatic experiences.
I understand how stressful life is and how incredibly difficult asking for help can be. In my nine years of working in the counseling field, I have learned that it is essential that the people I work with feel comfortable talking about the thoughts, feelings, and experiences that are negatively impacting their quality of life. I embrace the ideals of patience, empathy, understanding, and the absolutely essential element of humor to help people overcome the obstacles that keep them from achieving their goals.

I have an extensive history working with children and adolescents who have experienced trauma or emotional distress, as well as adults, couples, and families who are struggling with other issues.
Please email me rather than calling! I believe that the most essential part of creating a therapeutic alliance is the connection formed between therapist and client. I pride myself on my ability to build an open, trusting, and judgment-free relationship with my clients, while helping to develop coping skills and fortify personal strengths, in order to get through some of life's most challenging obstacles and transitions. I work with clients to increase confidence in their own abilities and capacity to heal, grow, and thrive in relationships with others, as well as themselves.

Therapeutic experience includes: adults and children , individuals and families, but I particularly enjoy working with couples.
For me, a solid therapeutic relationship with my clients is a must, and a trusting and supportive environment is the essential mantra to good therapeutic work. I believe it is a great privilege when a client allows me into the realm of their vulnerabilities, and I have a responsibility to offer them the best quality care in the most conducive environment possible. I feel that my professional knowledge coupled with life experience gives me a deep ability to listen honestly, understand sincerely, empathize in a heartfelt way and offer genuine respect for the human condition...whatever it may be.

It is possible to feel better, to see change, and to regain confidence, control and balance in your family and your life. As a therapist working with adults, teens, and parents, I am relaxed, practical, and hands-on. My approach is direct and effective, focused on increasing the "tool box" of skills you, your family, or your child can use in difficult situations. Working together, we will set goals based on your immediate concerns, problem-solve solutions, try out new ways to think about and handle your problems, and we will make changes that are lasting.

Additionally, my specialized knowledge of child development, caregiver- child attachment, relational difficulties and anxiety/depression related issues guides the therapeutic process for individuals across the lifespan.
Treating adults, children and adolescents I guide individuals through the process of gaining insight as well as coping skills to make changes that will lead them closer to contentment, happiness, and to achieving their full potential. Being human means experiencing emotions! From birth our life experiences and how we deal with our emotions results in certain patterns of behavior and thinking which can often lead to discontentment, confusion, impulsivity, fear, anxiety, depression, lack of motivation, behavioral and learning issues, etc.

Child Therapists

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?

Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How long are sessions with child therapists?

Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.

How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?

The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?

A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
