I will provide the tools to assist you in creating new chapters of your life. Just as we are all unique individuals, so is my clinical approach for you. I will support you as you work through your trials and tribulations which have caused difficulties in your life. I believe in a strengths based, bio-psychosocial approach, which has already been created by you.

As a wife and mother, I bring my life experiences into my counseling in the form of empathy and understanding. I also help my clients uncover strengths that can be used to cultivate coping skills and new perspectives. Sometimes that means exploring relationships, honing communication skills, or processing

to make meaning after
loss
. I am committed to meeting my clients where they are when they walk through the door and then working from there.

People contact me for many reasons. Often, though not always, the impetus seems to fall into one of two categories. Either something has happened to a person that has significantly changed their world, or nothing has happened and they are feeling stuck. Either scenario can leave someone feeling lost, confused, disconnected, and alone. Frequently I'm contacted after the
loss
of a loved one, including
loss
from suicide, or when someone is experiencing difficulty with life transitions (e.g., adjustment to college, career, change in family or caretaking role, or retirement). Other times, it's not that specific. It just helps to talk.

Therapy is successful when there is a good "fit" between client and therapist. The therapy "works" when the client feels that the therapist understands them and demonstrates the ability to help them improve their lives. With more than 25 years of experience with individuals, couples, families and groups, I offer an approach tailored to the uniqueness of each individual person and the issues unique to them.

Issues that can benefit from my focus are anxiety, depression,
grief
, sex abuse, marital, divorce/divorce recovery, single partnerships, adult parenting, peer relationships, and school/work/career concerns.
I counsel clients who are dealing with difficult life challenges. Over time it's not unusual to feel swept away by intense thoughts and feelings. Increasing an awareness of our selves and others can reverse "feeling stuck" and turns us toward our challenges with more effective options and with a calmer sense of well being. I've been in private practice for 20+ years; and I enjoy building a genuine connection with clients that is so essential to successful therapy. Working in a collaborative relationship is an energizing experience for clients and me.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
