Grief is a normal process people experience after a loss. Grief can become messy, complicated, and turn us into a tangled ball of emotions. But experiencing these messy and complicated emotions does not mean we are broken or damaged. We just need someone to understand the intense emotions felt on a daily basis. And realize that some days are harder than others, especially if it's a special occasion. Or when we hear a song or see a place that sparks a particular memory. And more importantly we will never "get over" the loss of our loved one. Missing our loved one becomes a part of who we are.

People come to therapy with issues. We believe they also bring the solutions to those issues. Our role is to assist in the process of discovering and implementing those solutions. We have learned by doing our own individual and group work how important it is to "walk the talk". We are prepared to take that walk with you and grow and learn together. You are the expert in your life and our expertise can help you with the next stage of your journey.

Now more than ever seeking out therapeutic support can have tremendous benefits. Many people find that counselors can be an asset to processing thoughts and difficult emotions, setting goals for personal growth, navigating relationships including family transitions and marital issues, and the challenges of everyday life. I can provide a fresh, unbiased perspective on a situation or current stressors to help you achieve balance and increased motivation. There is power in opening up and challenging ourselves in ways that we don't often get the chance to do because of fear or misunderstanding. I am here to help!

The decision to enter into therapy, although often difficult, can be one of the most rewarding choices a person can make. I believe my job as a therapist is to assist clients in making changes that lead to rich, meaningful lives, rather than focusing on the simple elimination of unwanted symptoms. I strive towards a therapeutic relationship that is collaborative and client-centered, providing an atmosphere of safety, understanding, and trust. It is my belief that within this environment, people find the freedom to do the work that leads to personal fulfillment.

ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS! As a counselor, I feel it is imperative to create an environment which enables clients to truly express what their thoughts and feelings are; a person must feel comfortable in their therapeutic setting. Counseling does not need to be a fear-provoking or anxiety-inducing experience, rather it should be a place a client looks forward going to in order to become the best version of themselves possible. I enjoy using various therapeutic modalities with clients, including Cognitive Behavior, Mindfulness, Emotion Focused, Solution Focused, and Psychoanalytic Therapies, among others.

The range of issues I can assist with include anxiety, depression, adjustment dx, self-harming behavior,
suicidal ideation
, mood disorders and psychosis.
When we face serious issues we may shut-down, shame or over blame ourselves/others for the problem. Absence of healthy coping skills/emotional balance can lead to an unhappy walk through life. Therapy allows the opportunity for growth to understand personal thoughts, feelings and behavior. Together, we can re-discover healthy control, coping skills, peace, hope, and emotional balance. Perhaps for the first time, you will love, trust and feel comfortable within your own skin. I like to look at change through a developmental lens where we have the courage to break unhealthy habits and replace them with more effective skills.

I specialize in working with all different age groups, teens, young adults & adults who may be struggling with eating disorders, trauma, sexual/gender identity, depression, anxiety, self-harm,
suicidal ideation
, substance abuse & many other mental health concerns. I've worked in a residential treatment facility, group homes, and IOP/PHP programs. I realize one single therapeutic approach does not fit every clients needs, which is why I rely on an eclectic model of Eye Movement Densenitization & Reprocessing, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Person-Centered Therapy. I am seeing clients in person in PA and virtually in NJ.

I currently work with ages 8 and up struggling with an array of issues such as anxiety, depression,
suicidal ideation
/self harm, anger, and self esteem.
Have you noticed your child or teen worrying a lot more lately? Have they been more down and withdrawn, losing interest in things they once loved? Seeing your child or teen struggle can leave you feeling helpless. Or maybe you have noticed these things in yourself or are a young adult struggling with life transitions and every day stress. Seeking help from a therapist may be the best choice to help begin to work towards meaningful change, create a better life balance, and facilitate inner peace.

How has pain colored your lens? Clouded your thoughts and decision making? Impacted your interpersonal relationships? Work/School life? Most people don't realize that if pain goes unattended; it impacts every area of our lives; including how we see and experience the world and the people in it. Unattended to pain opens the door to destructive behavior patterns and declining motivation. Pain can show up in addictions, somatic/psychotic manifestation, depression, anxiety,
suicidal ideation
, etc. When explored with the aide of a professional, that same pain can be utilized to help you discover the best version of yourself.

Reaching out to a professional takes courage. When struggles and unexpected challenges arise, it can lead to symptoms of anxiety, depression,
suicidal
thoughts, OCD, and many other psychological and emotional symptoms. Sometimes stress leads to compulsive behaviors, including; over indulging in alcohol and substance misuse. We encourage self-exploration into the patterns that keep individuals stuck, and prevent them from moving forward. We help client's capitalize on their strengths to focus on reaching their highest potential.

I have significant experience working with higher risk behaviors, such as self harm,
suicidal ideation
, substance abuse, and other addictions.
OPEN TO RETURNING CLIENTS ONLY. I specialize in working with adolescents and young adults ages 13 to 30, but I do treat all adults. I have 20+ years of experience helping young people and their families negotiate major life transitions, relationship challenges, school related academic and social issues, as well as managing symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma and substance abuse. I understand the neccesity of collaborating with families of teens and individualizing each person's treatment approach. I am also aware of the specific dynamics of many of the local schools and universities, and can help navigate through those systems.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists
How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?
Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.
Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.
Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?
The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.
How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
