Far too often we are weighed down by heavy emotions, intrusive thoughts and conditioned patterns. Through my varied experience I have been able to witness firsthand-that even in the direst circumstances positive change is possible. My philosophy is to provide you with patience; positivity and pragmatism while varying the therapeutic approach to fit your current needs. To foster motivation and facilitate insight, I utilize a combination of strength-based techniques. I also believe in the significance of incorporating your interests and creativity (e.g. art, music, theatre and humor) into sessions.

My ideal client is a talkative and self-directed person who can clearly articulate what they want from therapy and how they hope to change their lives. The ideal client volunteers to come to therapy and wants to have open discussions that are focused on the process/journey, and not always end results.

Although my bread and butter is supporting clients who are navigating anxiety or OCD, I am also equipped through specialized education to help with emotional challenges, trauma care, life transitions, relational stress, low self-esteem, women’s issues, child and teen mental health, anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions.
Hi! I’m Kiersten Garcia-Diaz. I’m a therapist at The Chrysalis Counseling Center in Moorestown, NJ, and I’m passionate about helping people feel more grounded, authentic, confident, and understood. My ideal client is someone who feels like their brain is constantly running a million miles an hour. Someone who is overthinking, overanalyzing, and maybe over-Googling their symptoms. They might be struggling with anxiety, self-doubt, or navigating big life changes. They’ve tried “just relaxing” already and are ready for real tools and a space where they don’t have to pretend everything’s fine.

I am also trained in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD.
Life can be challenging and messy, and that’s completely normal! When emotions become overwhelming—or feel too distant—it is easy to feel defeated, exhausted, or disconnected from yourself. These experiences don’t make you broken; they make you human.

I provide exposure-based treatment for obsessive-compulsive disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, social phobia, panic disorder, agoraphobia, specific phobias, generalized anxiety disorder, hypochondriasis, and body dysmorphic disorder.
I am very open with my patients about my understanding of their problems and what I think is likely to be helpful. I do my best to present my conceptualization clearly, and I invite feedback. Based on our shared understanding of the problem, I suggest potential interventions and foci for treatment for my patients to consider. This collaboration helps to ensure that therapy feels relevant. It acknowledges my respect for the patient and establishes a therapeutic relationship that fosters self-efficacy.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists
How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
