I have an eclectic, holistic, and attachment focused approach to treatment which is rooted in Psychodynamic theory and includes play therapy, Parent Child Interaction Therapy, Expressive Arts,
CBT
, Mind, Body, and trauma informed interventions.
Whether I am working with a child or an adult, my primary goal is to help to create a safe space for them to identify, explore and manage the emotions and behaviors that are impeding their potential for living a healthier and happy life. I have extensive training and experience working with children and adults who have experienced trauma. Though often feeling depleted and unrecognized, I have seen, untapped, and helped to recover incredible strengths in my clients. Much of my work begins with identifying and supporting those strengths in an effort to overcome and heal from the issues that are creating challenges in their lives.

There's no sugarcoating it-life is tough. But in taking this first, courageous step in seeking help, I believe that you are too. Whether you're dealing with the loss of a loved one, a relationship, or job-or experiencing a difficult life transition- know that your situation does not define you, and that it's possible to not only stand up amidst the storms that rage around you...but to emerge even stronger than before. I know because I've been there, and I'm here to stand with you.

All therapy stems from the building of a relationship -- a partnership -- between the therapist and the client. There can be no progress or client satisfaction without trust and that trust can be life changing and last long after the therapy has concluded. I have worked with countless numbers of children, adolescents and adults who began treatment filled with guilt, worry and stress. Nothing gives me more satisfaction than to see them over time shed those negative emotions and step back into life with the tools necessary to become successful and empathetic individuals.

You seem to have it all together on the outside. You live by the golden rule, working hard, extending compassion and taking care of everyone but yourself. You conditioned yourself to say “I am fine” when you know you are not. You feel stuck in negative cycles and perhaps distract yourself from uncomfortable feelings by over working, shopping or drinking too much. You are constantly in survival mode, feeling stressed, anxious, tired, confused and overwhelmed.

People usually come to me wanting and needing change relatively quickly for their issues related to drugs and alcohol, eating, or as concerned family members. People often feel some shame, or a lot of it, around their problems. I have had success in orienting people to these problems and motivating them to find their way to hope, happiness, and a "recovered" life. Raising a person's true self-confidence is usually a part of the treatment. No two people are exactly alike so I adapt to the counseling needs of my clients. These are treatable issues, so seek help!

We all reach moments of crisis in our lives when situations become too complicated or overwhelming to work through independently. Whether these times are related to an acutely stressful life event or a more subtle shifting of circumstances, I hope to provide my clients with the tools and guidance to work through these difficult moments. I understand that getting to therapy is often an intimidating process, and I seek to provide a non-judgmental and supportive place in which to do the work, while also challenging each person to see his or her thoughts, feelings and behaviors more clearly.

I have extensive experience working with adolescents and adults in the field of mental health. As a supervisor for an agency contracted by the State of NJ, I worked directly with youth/families suffering from the impact of mental health challenges. I am an Intensively Trained DBT therapist. Extensive research has shown that Dialectical Behavioral Therapy is the most effective approach in treating emotional dysregulation. With my ability to gain rapport and target client's goals quickly, I help individuals attain a better quality of life through self acceptance, but at the same time, make changes in order to achieve their personal goals.

Drunk again-again! You’re confused why you drank more than you thought you would, yet again. Feelings of guilt and shame about drinking hang heavy on your heart. After making many promises to yourself and others to stop, your failure sits out there for everyone to see. Last night you had not a care in the world. This morning it’s hard to look at yourself in the mirror. Embarrassing episodes from the past haunt you. The hangovers are upsetting, but not as upsetting as the anxiety and depression you keep at bay with alcohol. You know your life would be better if you could change but you still haven’t found a way to do that.
