For those with alcohol use disorder, I use the principles of evidence-based alcohol sobriety and moderation techniques with or without medication. Clients will learn to moderate their alcohol use to achieve life-long moderation or learn how to achieve sobriety if they choose. For those struggling with substances other than alcohol, I offer CBT, DBT and MI to assist in achieving sobriety. This is your journey and your choices, and my coaching/counseling style is to meet you where you are at, motivate you and help you find long-term solutions for substance abuse.

I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in American Studies from Rutgers University and earned a Master's degree in Counseling from Regis University in Colorado. While obtaining my Master's degree, I also completed a two-year training in Hakomi Mindful Somatic Therapy. Hakomi uses the body as an access point to discover unconscious patterns and core beliefs. It has the potential to create long-lasting healing and deeply informs my work. I had the privilege of providing bereavement counseling to hospice clients during my internship in graduate school and also facilitated a support group for individuals struggling with eating disorders.

Life is hard, working as a therapist to help clients overcome obstacles and achieve their optimal potential is the most rewarding part of my practice. I believe in client focused treatment, where therapist and client collaborate in the healing process. Mindful attunement can cultivate self awareness and self compassion. Depending on the goodness of fit, I am well trained and use a variety of treatments, including, Rational Emotive Therapy, CBT and DBT. I incorporate psychodrama when appropriate and beneficial to the Client.

I believe you already have the answer to your problem. If you’re unaware of that answer, my job is to help you uncover it. If you’re conscious of it, my job is to help you accept it. I have over a decade's worth of experience assisting diverse populations of children, adolescents, teens in crisis, adults, couples, families and individuals with advanced illnesses in managing and overcoming a wide array of issues including: emotional, physical and sexual abuse; trauma; adjustment difficulties; emotional, behavioral and relational disturbances; substance abuse; and gender/sexuality issues. Through my experience and training I have gained a strong understanding of diverse identities, including gender and sexual identities, as well as sexual and relational issues. Therefore, I am able to provide gender therapy for transgender and gender-expansive individuals from a non-pathological perspective.

I hold Certificates from The Center for the Study of Anorexia and Bulimia, where I am a supervisor; am a past president and current faculty member of the NY State Society of Ericksonian Hypnosis and Psychotherapy; and have supervised in the Graduate Programs for Mental Health Counseling and Clinical Social Work at Hunter College/CUNY.
