You may be carrying anxiety or depression, or watching your child carry it. Adult life can demand more than you have to give, grief or a change in your body can become the new baseline, or living as your authentic self can feel at odds with the world you move through. In children and teens, that struggle often shows up as withdrawal or defiance. Some of what brings you here can't be changed, and part of the work is making room for it. More often, though, we look at mental relics: patterns built long ago that once protected you and now hold you back. Bringing them into view is what makes change possible.
I've been in private practice for 8 years. While earning my doctorate at the Wright Institute in Berkeley, I trained for 5 years in mental health clinics around the Bay Area. Before that, I worked in two residential settings with youth who had complex trauma and in a homeless shelter. Those years taught me to stay steady with people in real distress.
I practice relational psychodynamic, gestalt therapy, and play therapy for kids. What all three share is attention to the present moment, where old patterns tend to reappear. Thinking about culture and identity is of central importance, and I've worked with people from many walks of life. Reach out and we can talk about whether I'm a fit.
