I know you are looking for the opposite experience of what I had with my first therapist: stuffy, pretentious, and hypocritical advice from someone that didn’t know or understand me. This is a therapist directory website, which could mean you are already on your journey to closing the gap between where you are and where you want to be. I’m sure you have already tried many things. I may not be the first therapist you have seen or considered working with about this. I know you need a different experience than what you have had.
Having spent years facilitating wilderness and adventure therapy, I understand that when we shift our internal experience of ourselves, we often travel differently in our external world. When we shift our experience of anxiety, stress, trauma responses, etc, we change our relationships, career, academic, athletic worlds as well.
This only works if you can feel that I am understanding without judgment. Therapeutic change happens under similar conditions that I eat a burrito: a judge free zone where it’s safe to be messy. You can expect my style to reflect core values of empathy and authenticity wrapped in a soft shell of playful fun and humor.

Men's Emotional Wellness Group

We would all like to increase pleasure and decrease pain. But the truth is, pain, or discomfort is often associated with positive change. The muscle metaphor is a classic example to use here. In order for the muscle to grow, it needs to be put under stress. We also know that too much stress - and we get injured, not enough and we don’t grow. Throw in ideas of proper form and technique, motivation, supplementation, rest and recovery, and we have a nuanced metaphor for growing our strength, resiliency, competency, and anti-fragility in the emotional realm.
