Imagine that you are holding a bottle of soda. Now imagine yourself shaking that bottle. What happens if you open the top? It explodes everywhere! Now, if you take that same shaken up bottle and carefully turn the lid to let a little amount of air out at a time, it will settle. This is how I view therapy, with each shake representing a negative experience, relationship, and/or trauma. Good therapy demands being careful with and sensitive to those shakes, and eventually walking out the door with a mind, a relationship, and a life ... settled.
I specialize in working with individuals, couples and families. I often utilize a great deal of humor in doing so, but recognize when humor serves more as a defense mechanism than a healthy attitude about life, love, and other mysteries.
I have also trained budding therapists on their pursuit toward full licensure for the last fifteen years. I have been married since 2003 to another therapist, Ashley, so we never have any issues. We have two perfect children who never do anything questionable. (Those last two sentences may not be entirely accurate).
