My time as a therapist has predominantly focused on children/teens with clinical issues ranging from severe depression, anger, mood disorders, and those struggling with transitions whether from behavioral issues at school or issues stemming from changes in their family. It is my belief that therapy should be a collaborative effort between the therapist, family, and child focusing on establishing their own goals for treatment with clinical guidance. I have found that offering a supportive and understanding environment can help both clients and their family a way of addressing their needs even if they feel insurmountable.
My clinical background is in CBT, DBT, and play therapy approaches focusing on uncovering and processing difficult emotions or trauma in a clients past before establishing ways to grow past in a way that client feels comfortable and at their own pace. To help my client's reach their goals I promote the use of coping skills and challenging negative thoughts.
From personal experience that lead me to pursue this career, I understand that reaching out for help can be difficult.
