The perinatal season and first responder field can be gratifying yet also introduce enormous changes in family dynamics and relationships. Whether a new parent or first responder, experiencing tragedy personally and or secondarily, expectations for a new mother or first responder can be high and too often dismissive of the unique stressors involved with making a new human or in the field. When unpredicted changes happen, people can feel alone, isolated, and afraid to give voice to their vulnerabilities. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with extensive experience in working with the perinatal and first responder population.

My life's work is to help those struggling to feel happy, whole, purposeful and worthwhile. I find that people generally have powerful intuition; they don't always heed it or know how to listen to their inner voice. My job is to help people tune in and strengthen their connection to their own wisdom. If you're looking to better understand yourself and your relationships, if you want to feel more self-led, if your connection to feeling confident, competent, creative, connected and calm is intermittent and you need sensible boundaries, I may be able to help.

Sometimes getting through the day is just too much. Trying to handle life and feeling stuck, a lack of tolerance or irritability to what feels like everything? Maybe you're struggling with low self-worth, shame, guilt, anxiety, depression, a difficult childhood, trauma, grief/loss, and/or just making some life choices.

Do you have trouble concentrating or sleeping because you spend time worrying you either said or did something wrong, or you will in the future? Is anger becoming your go-to reaction in the face of frustration or being disregarded? Not sure how to make tough decisions in relationships or at work? These are some common concerns I hear from clients. We will work together to make sense of these experiences and plan a way toward the goals you want to reach.

As the saying goes, "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade." Embracing this notion can often feel straightforward, as we strive to accept both the highs and lows that life offers. Yet, there are moments when facing the sourness of life isn't as simple. This is where therapy can offer valuable support. Through my practice, I employ Acceptance and Commitment Therapy alongside other approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing. Together, we create a safe environment to navigate and address life's challenges head-on.

I believe that human suffering happens when the way we live our lives falls out of alignment with our internal compass. We are inherently driven to self-actualize and become the best version possible of ourselves; however, the reality is that we live in a very complex world that often steers us away from what we value. We often fall into this trap and begin to chase what society deems valuable, while being convinced that it's our true calling. This behavioral pattern is often piloted by our anxieties and relational trauma, which is what I am most fluent in, as a fellow human first, and a therapist second.

Do you feel less regulated when you leave your therapy session? I prioritize meeting clients where they are at, and regulating the nervous system so you're never leaving feeling worse than when you came in. Many of my clients are neurodivergent or parenting neurodivergent kids, and feel overwhelmed, ashamed, or like they’re never quite getting it “right.” I use a combination of approaches to support healing to help you feel safer in your body, more connected to your needs, and more able to live from a place of clarity, self-trust, and authenticity.

We all feel disconnected or stuck sometimes. My goal as a therapist is to help you change that through reconnecting with yourself and the world around you. I believe we aren't meant to thrive in isolation from the natural world, so my goal is to help you harness the environment's power to heal and refocus. Whether we’re incorporating outdoor spaces or natural daily rhythms, you'll find new ways to quiet the noise, settle into the present moment, and rediscover who you are when you're at peace.

FAQ - Therapist Gender
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
