I'm a certified EMDR therapist licensed in New Hampshire and Maine. EMDR is an approach to treating trauma and the patterns and negative core beliefs keeping us stuck. I work with adults who are searching for deep transformational healing, not just coping skills to manage life. Let’s get to the roots of how you got here and rewire, digest and reprocess those experiences so you don't feel like they’re controlling the narrative and your physical responses anymore. My areas of interest are trauma, complex trauma, sexual assault / abuse, feminist issues, supporting the queer and trans community and the creative, artistic and offbeat.

Currently accepting new clients! Life would feel infinitely easier if we were all handed a roadmap to follow. Our journeys can bring unexpected bumps and curves — but also many moments of joy. It’s natural to sometimes feel lost, confused, or even rudderless while navigating life’s challenges. Reaching out for support can feel daunting, but having a compassionate copilot can make all the difference. An empathetic presence — someone who helps you make sense of where you’re headed, offers encouragement along the way, and validates your desire to start fresh — can lighten what often feels like a solitary burden.

I am not accepting new clients. Contact me to be added to my waitlist if you're in Maine and looking for EMDR Therapy. I came to therapy by way of a writing classroom & a yoga mat. Years of teaching college English, alongside more than 15 years of teaching yoga, ground my work in deep attention to language, the body, & their intersection. For the last several years, I’ve worked with adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, & the often hard-to-name sense of feeling stuck. EMDR is central to my practice, working where trauma lives—in the nervous system & body, where insight alone isn’t always enough.

PRACTICE IS FULL. I practice from a primarily cognitive-behavioral approach. Treatment typically includes challenging unhelpful beliefs about yourself, others and the world. Exposure and Response Prevention is typically used as the first line of treatment for OCD, OCD related disorders and anxiety disorders. I also incorporate Acceptance and Commitment, Dialectical Behavioral, and Relational therapies. Any behavior is an intention to sustain the self; yet many times the preserving behavior exacerbates the distress, fear, sadness, or anger.

Are you seeking a path of fulfillment personally and in your relationships? Engaging in a rich and meaningful life requires knowing ourselves deeply and acting on intentional choices guided by our core values, feelings, and desires. Our relationships can become more intimate as we develop clarity about our needs and courage to be vulnerable with those we trust to meet us on this level. When we have experienced trauma, pelvic pain, or challenging relationships, we need space to heal. I support clients in deepening their capacity for presence, emotional intimacy, and pleasure through mindfulness, self-compassion, and self-acceptance.

You only have one body. Accepting it can seem impossible in a society that values thinness. Our brains learn that actions like restriction, over exercise, binge eating, avoidance and control help us to feel better in the short term. Yet, ultimately lead us to feeling worse mentally and physically in the long run. My goal is to help you break these patterns by teaching you how to untwist your thinking, build realistic strategies you can use forever, and identify your untapped strengths.

I don't believe you're broken, even if you are suffering. You are already whole, and much of our suffering comes from losing sight of that wholeness, that unbroken light within ourselves. The goal is not to help you conform better to a failing system or function better on the surface while still feeling empty or lost inside; the goal is to help you find the root of what is happening for you, and locate the inner spiral that is the pathway out of suffering and into self-knowledge, maturity, and self-compassion.

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
