Anxiety? OCD? Sick of being anxious ALL the time? I know, it is horrible. This is NOT a talk session. You need tools. In just a session(s) it will be better! I have been working in mental health over 20 years. Specialties: Anxiety, OCD, phobias, depression, relationships/low self esteem. I give what I would want myself, answers and therapy that works! I respect that, having worked with thousands of clients with phobia's, OCD, chronic worry, marriage/relationships, loss , and communication problems. Panic attacks/phobias (highways, fear of medical/social anxiety/heights/fear of illness/orderliness causing daily disruption are common).

These disorders include but are not limited to Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Phobias, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder & Anxiety due to transitions such as divorce, job loss & loss of a loved one.
My ideal client would be one who is willing to put in the effort it takes to achieve a healthy and happy mental status. Not every population I see has this mindset. I believe that by building trust and rapport as well as by the client seeing their own progress, the motivation to reach their personal goals will increase. I have worked with patients as young as 2 and as old as 72 with varying issues. Although I am trained to work with most populations and feel comfortable doing so, my specialty lies with those suffering from anxiety.

My approach is suited to a wide range of relationship concerns: loss of passion/connection, infidelity, communication issues, and a general lack of relational satisfaction.
Relationship concerns? Our relationships with others define us in many ways. Whether its marriage or other intimate relationships, co-workers, friends, or family members, we live in a world of connection with others. I can help you better understand yourself as a relational being and turn that understanding into improved satisfaction with yourself and those you are involved with. After all, isn't it the quality of our relationships that determines the quality of our lives for most of us?

Beyond the standard areas of mental health treatment all therapists receive training in, I tend to work well and have experience with: grief / loss issues, relationship/couples/marriage difficulties, communication and expression challenges, anxiety, men's issues (shame, guilt, sexuality, love, spiritual/philosophical integration, trauma), and living with acute or chronic medical conditions.
Anxious? Overwhelmed? Stressed? There are many roads and means to feeling more comfortable in your life - therapy can act as a great place to look at these options and map out a way to move forward. Through my practice I look to be a credible source of help and support for you, your relationship, or your family and assist in finding your own path. Please feel free to call me or email to discuss your interest - I look forward to connecting with you. - TJ

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
