I enjoy working with different people and clinical issues, from those seeking clarity related to life decisions, transitions, or relationships, to those trying to overcome anxiety, depression, improve their self-esteem, or come to a place of contentment with their lives. I also enjoy working with people around mood, behavior and social issues, and with struggling students and parents who are trying to support their children both at home and in school.

With 30 years of experience treating trauma and grief, I find that Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing provides relief more rapidly than traditional talk therapies. I see adults at my location in Campton, NH or via Telehealth to adults in NH. Clients usually have disproportionate disturbance (anxiety, grief, depression) in the present that was conditioned by negative experiences in the past. Clients with symptoms of Chronic Complex PTSD or Substance Use Disorder maintain treatment with a primary therapist and my services are an adjunct treatment as long as symptoms are stabilized.

During these unprecedented times, conditions are ideal for issues to rise and insist on being attended to. Symptoms of depression and anxiety are clues from the body that the existing state is no longer sustainable. I view this as an opportunity rather than a dilemma or tragedy. My role is to assist in navigating this landscape and normalize the emotions that accompany this courageous work. My goal is to assist each client in revealing childhood wiring that is creating difficulties in present time. The intent is to allow authenticity and agency to emerge from unconscious reactions and behavior determined by family patterning.

With over 20 years of experience as a therapist, I have developed a number of skills to help my clients work through some of life's challenges. I work to meet my clients where they are while offering skills, insights, and support to help them achieve their goals. I have appreciated knowing how the brain works and that we can choose, if we wish, to modify approaches to experience different outcomes. When we are in our darkest moments, it can be reassuring to know you have someone there to support you through it. It always amazes me how we can find lighter moments of laughter when it seemed impossible only an hour before.

I have been working as a therapist and clinical supervisor for more than thirty years. I love helping people discover their hidden skills, strengths and values which may have become lost in life’s struggles. Whatever the issue, my job is to assist you in realizing you have the capacity to untangle and manage whatever brings you to my office. My approach involves separating the person from the problem; helping people manage the kinds of negative thoughts we all have which can increase stress, tell us bad things about ourselves, or convince us to do things that are not in our best interest.

The phrase, one size fits all, shouldn't apply when it comes to choosing a therapist. A good "fit" is the key to a productive and rewarding therapy experience. Many of my clients have commented on how quickly and easily they're able to talk, and not feel judged. My life experience has allowed me to see the importance of empathy and compassion - judging others is something I cannot afford to do.

I view therapy as a whole-person journey—one that honors the connection between mind, body, and spirit. I hold a Master’s in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology from Naropa University and a Bachelor’s in Human Ecology from the College of the Atlantic. In addition to my clinical training, I am a certified Hatha, Vinyasa Sadhana, and Kundalini yoga teacher and have trained as both a Birth Doula and Midwifery Assistant. These experiences bring a holistic, body-centered perspective to my work and reflect my belief that healing unfolds through both insight and embodied presence.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
