We are a NH IDCMP/DWI program and we also specialize in Addictions, Mental Health, Evaluations, License Reinstatement , Anger Management, Veterans and DUI/DWI clients.
I feel I am a different kind of counselor, because there is not a sense of separation between client and counselor. Clients are often impressed with how quickly times goes in session, they explain, "it's like talking to a good friend", "you make me feel so comfortable and not judged". We still get the work done just as effectively, but prepare to feel more relaxed....our offices are homey and comfortable. We kick our feet up on a coffee table, and chat in a way that allows people to feel more like talking to a friend than a stranger.

We all experience anger, anxiety, worry & panic at some time in our lives that can feel overwhelming.
My approach to therapy is called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy(ACT), an extension of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Its aim is to empower people to face challenges, overcome difficulties, and live a life with purpose and meaning. ACT has a good set of scientific studies supporting its effectiveness with a variety of problems.

One of the most significant signs of stress is an inability to express feelings and emotions in a healthy manner causing anger to erupt.
This training along with the work experience has brought me to a place where I am able to help others effectively express their feeling and emotions without resorting to negative behaviors. Working with me entails, not only talk therapy, but the exploration of mindfulness techniques and other stress reducing skills.

Do you have past trauma that you still carry around despite your best efforts to cope? This trauma could be a single event, years of smaller incidents, a negative self- statement that's been with you forever, or a loss of some kind. Sometimes talk therapy doesn't actually solve the core issue and you continue to have overwhelming feelings when it comes up for you. I use a combination of EMDR, Brainspotting, and Parts Work to work on these core issues. This can be done as a stand-alone therapy or as an adjunct to talk therapy.

I offer non-traditional counseling/coaching alternatives to inspire you to create the positive changes you want. Standard 50-minute office sessions don't go far enough for some people. That's why, in addition to standard sessions, for nearly 20 years I have offered my clients different approaches. For some it's multiple-hour sessions in a traditional setting; for others, it's doing our work together outdoors sitting in a peaceful place or walking together. Of course, many other options are available. I also make myself available to clients for phone or Skype sessions when something urgent arises.

If you're feeling uncertain about whether or not to start therapy, please know that you are welcome here. So much of my work with clients is focused on getting to know the parts of us that have protected us for so long and are resistant to change. My work is based in the belief that people are generally doing the best they can with the knowledge and resources they have. It's important to me to honor the ways that even our "worst" coping skills have served us during challenging times. I seek to really understand where folks are in the present as well as what their goals are for the future.

My approach as a therapist is warm, authentic, and holistic - with a healthy dose of humor! I believe therapy should be tailored to fit the individual, and as such draw from a blend of techniques and modalities depending on the unique needs and nature of the client. I am trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and am currently undergoing training in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), an evidence-based trauma treatment.

Although I have experience treating a broad array of diagnostic categories, my approach is centered on treating the whole person. I look toward an understanding of the behaviors, thoughts, feelings, and ways of interacting that individuals repeat in spite of a wish to behave differently. My focus is on helping patients hear beyond what they know themselves to be saying, which, in my experience, allows individuals to feel more freedom and less angst in being in the world. I find that I am most helpful with people who want to know themselves better, or feel differently on a deep level.

Therapy is the workbench where you take apart old habits, fine-tune your mindset, and build a life that fits who you really are. Through an existential lens, we can explore the deeper “whys” behind desire, power, death, meaning and connection. Whether you're untangling shame, learning who you are, or just wanting to feel more fulfilled, our work can be about embracing freedom, meaning, and your truest self—no judgment, just curiosity. Want to dig in? Let’s talk.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
