Specialties: OCD, trauma, anxiety, and grief - the stuff that takes over your whole nervous system, not just your mood.
Your brain won't quiet. The thought comes back and the anxiety makes the decision before you do. The grief hit different than anyone told you it would or it hasn't hit yet and that worries you more. The thing that happened to you is still running the show and you're exhausted from pretending it isn't. You've maybe even tried therapy before and it was fine. Nice, even. But "fine" didn't change anything. You don't want someone who's going to nod at you for an hour and send you home with a worksheet. You want someone who's going to be honest with you - like actually honest - and do real work with you, not just hold space at you.

My practice focuses on helping people navigate OCD, anxiety, and the impact of trauma.
My work in trauma is guided by the understanding that traumatic experiences can continue to affect how we think, feel and relate long after an event has occurred. I use EMDR and other evidence-based approaches to help clients process traumatic experiences and develop a greater sense of safety and connection.

I believe that human suffering happens when the way we live our lives falls out of alignment with our internal compass. We are inherently driven to self-actualize and become the best version possible of ourselves; however, the reality is that we live in a very complex world that often steers us away from what we value. We often fall into this trap and begin to chase what society deems valuable, while being convinced that it's our true calling. This behavioral pattern is often piloted by our anxieties and relational trauma, which is what I am most fluent in, as a fellow human first, and a therapist second.

I believe we all have the strength and power to heal ourself when we are able to take a deeper look. Often, we just need a safe space to explore, be curious, and build compassion for ourself. I specialize in traumatic stress and use a mind body approach to either heal, or simply increase self awareness and engage in self discovery. I work with any client who wants to deepen their understanding of themselves.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists
How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
