Past trauma and stressors have a way of unexpectedly surprising survivors at the most inopportune time leaving them feeling vulnerable, alone, overwhelmed, and stuck. Work, school, church, social events, and family functions become places to avoid because big emotions, panic, anxiety, guilt, and shame rob survivors of the self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-efficacy needed to build healthy relationships, balanced lives, and freedom. Learn to have more confidence, self control over reactions and inner strength

Feeling overwhelmed, anxious or discouraged because of a challenging relationship in your life or a big change? Changes, difficult people in our lives and demanding jobs can leave us drained, confused, and extremely frustrated. Lets talk about balance, boundaries, self compassion, gaining perspective, and finding ways to find peace amidst the challenges. We can work together to understand negative patterns in your life, and choose to make positive changes for yourself, family, faith and work. I especially love working with other helpers such as nurses, first responders, social workers, ministry leaders, teachers, and parents.

My view of therapy is an opportunity to engage in a collaborative process by which the therapist and client work together towards enriching lifestyle, and enhancing overall well-being. Additional treatment modalities I draw from include cognitive-behavioral therapy techniques aimed to help reframe and replace negative thought patterns leading to healthier responses in challenging situations. Furthermore, I work from a strengths based perspective that amplifies each individual's unique qualities through the process of self-discovery, healing, acceptance and forgiveness of self and others.

I work with clients to understand their own thinking processes and belief systems, to develop new coping strategies and learn new skills to interact with family and others interpersonally, and to make lifestyle adjustments to bolster internal psychological and coping resources. Making targeted changes in these areas leads to improvements in overall mood and well-being for families and individuals. I work with children and adolescents using tools that are engaging and interactive and take their developmental needs and abilities into account.

Hello! My name is Genevieve, and when you work with me at Long Term Healing, my goal is not to identify your symptoms, or diagnosis. Rather, the focus is on healing and growing from what happened to you. It could be your first time ever in therapy or it could be your 10th, no matter what your circumstance, I'm here to stand by you and support your journey. I understand that finding the right fit can be one of the most difficult steps. I am compassionate although direct in my approach. In my office we say out loud the words and experiences that others may have shied away from.

Growing up is hard. Besides drowning in a culture of “never enough,” we are bombarded daily by a constant stream of messaging about who, how and what we are supposed to be. The pressure is often crippling, the messages are confusing, and it can be tough to know where to turn for help. For over a decade, I have worked with teens, young adults, and parents who are learning how to navigate this important period with self-awareness, skill, and confidence. I listen carefully and read between the lines, helping young people figure out what is really going on and helping them forge their own, unique path forward.

Most of us at some point feel we want things in our lives to be different, but don’t always know how to make the changes we need to or can’t do it on our own because we get stuck. I am optimistic we can work towards positive change together! I am offering individual and group Life Coaching for children and teenagers. This is an alternate approach to traditional mental health methods. My sessions with your child will be primarily outdoors and we will be using nature and physical activity to alleviate anxiety and depression symptoms. I have 15 years of experience as a School Counselor and over 20 years working with youth.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
