Each person's life story is unique. I hope to help you explore the chapters of your life story that you would like to understand better and improve. These subtle changes can enhance your day to day life today. The first step is recognizing that you want to make changes and then having the courage to do so. I work collaboratively with you or your child to help you explore what can be done to make changes and relieve some of the stressors. As an expert working with the Latinex and the Orthodox Jewish population, I understand the intersection of cultural identity and mental health.

Do you want to cultivate a collaborative partnership for self-directed healing? I am a cisgender, white, Jewish woman living in Brooklyn, and I have experienced firsthand the opportunity therapy provides to connect and feel deeply understood. I help you bring an awareness of and curiosity about the impacts of systems, historical trauma, and early formative experiences that shape you. Bringing compassion and insight to the belief systems that keep you feeling stuck can facilitate new ways of relating to yourself.

Do you want to cultivate authentic curiosity in your thoughts and feelings, and bring compassion to the parts of yourself in need of attention? I am a cisgender, white, Jewish woman and parent living in Brooklyn. Having worked as a labor doula for six years, I realized what I loved most about birth work was creating a safe and supportive container for my clients to figure out what they truly needed. Shifting into my work as a therapist felt like a natural transition in so many ways; I love listening, holding space for curiosity and vulnerability, and supporting the journey of growth and healing.

In particular, I have extensive experience working with Jewish women of various observance levels.
I believe the therapeutic relationship can be both healing and empowering. I use a person centered, strengths-based approach to help each person best reach their goals. Together we create a warm, safe, and genuine space that each person can use to gain self-awareness and feel supported. We work to eliminate distress and facilitate personal growth to help the client reach their individual goals. Throughout this process, I place great importance on understanding the impact of a person’s identity, culture, and environment to best support them. I also believe collaboration, creativity, and humor are essential to the process!

I am a Jewish New Yorker who spent a few years after undergrad in the fashion industry before pursuing my true passion which is helping individuals define, identify, and overcome obstacles that may impede connections with the self and others.
I am a psychodynamically-trained therapist who is interested in hearing about past experiences where patterns might have occurred in your life. Coming from a Relational-Cultural and Feminist lens, I believe that cultivating a strong therapeutic relationship is at the utmost importance in order to provide a safe environment to build upon your own narrative.

I spent many years working at college counseling centers, most recently at Columbia University and the Jewish Theological Seminary.
My goal as a psychotherapist is to help you work through difficult experiences, traumas, or symptoms that may be holding you back. I believe that emotional pain can lead to anxiety, shame, and self-doubt. These feelings keep us feeling stuck and inhibit vital parts of ourselves. I strive to help my clients develop more compassion and curiosity toward their experiences so they can learn new ways of coping and achieve greater satisfaction, self-confidence, and authenticity.

I intimately understand how healing from trauma can be emotionally fraught, draining, and tedious. My hope is to help you shoulder these burdens so that you don’t have to go through such emotional difficulties alone. I am queer, non-monogamous, Jewish , and radically sex positive; I work hard to affirm folks of these and other marginalized identities. My therapeutic approach actively endeavors to dismantle ways in which homophobia, fatphobia, sex negativity, and neurotypical hegemony may impede the healing process. You are the expert of your own experience and our work together will reflect that.

I am also a proud member of the NASW-NY Jewish Social Workers Interest Group, working to combat antisemitism in the field.
I practice psychotherapy with a collaborative and integrative approach by curating evidence-based practices that work in accordance with each client’s needs and styles of treatment. Primarily, I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused CBT, Psychodynamic Theory, Object Relations, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. My approach is strengths-based, person-centered, and trauma-informed. I passionately work with clients to create a judgment-free space that, over time, becomes a haven for discussing intimate or traditionally taboo subjects.

orthodox Jewish ) I'm most familiar with that particular lifestyle, while it has also provided me with the sensitivity to understand other cultures as well.
Wouldn't it be great if your therapist didn't just listen to you, but helped YOU listen to yourself? You know, that Self that gets lost among all your responsibilities and commitments and social media and stress and all the things you tell yourself...all that stuff that makes you feel fragmented and overwhelmed. I love helping people discover themselves amidst the noise of life. Understanding yourself is the key to getting "unstuck" and moving towards healing, success, and growth.

“I’m so sad.” “I’m stuck.” “I’m lonely.” “I hate my life.” “I’m nervous about everything.” If these sentiments sound familiar, you have just taken the first step toward change. I have specialized training in the treatment of anxiety, depression, and complex trauma. I have unique experience in treating men and women with relationship issues as well as those contemplating, or in the process of, divorce. I have worked extensively with religiously observant individuals of the Catholic and Jewish faith, negotiating the tension between modern contemporary life and religious practice.

As a biracial queer person of Haitian and Jewish descent, Dr.
Dr. Gottlieb is a NYS licensed clinical psychologist. As a helping professional she believes that each person is doing the best they can in any given moment and that therapy can help build on innate strength so that they can do more. Dr. Gottlieb approaches therapy through the lens that all people are whole and unbroken as they are. Therapy does not change people, rather it helps them to develop the skills they need to live in a way that is consistent with the life they want to live.

Hi, my name is Nicholas. I’m a Latinx, Middle Eastern, Jewish , and queer Psychotherapist. My multicultural upbringing, experiences with immigration, and being from a low-income household have inspired me to help people who experience systematic violence because of how they identify. I provide a supportive, authentic space where we can dive into root causes of problems, and utilize social justice and trauma-informed approaches. I’ve worked with people of all ages in English and Spanish on issues surrounding their LGBTQ+ identities, substance use, violence, abuse, complex diagnoses, forced migration, and family systems.

there are a number of credentials i could share about myself and ways you might decide if i’m the right therapist for you - but honestly, between you and me - what matters is that i love this work and i believe in this work. i feel deeply humbled to hold people’s stories and hearts for a living. the trust that this work requires is no small thing and i never take that lightly. in my clinical practice i use an anti-racist, queer liberation, harm reduction, feminist, and attachment focused framework.

While I have experience with clients from a diverse range of backgrounds, I am especially experienced in working with Jewish communities, including with people who practice differently than their families.
People often struggle with negative, self-defeating thoughts - often ones that they know are not completely true, yet nevertheless feel true. Many of my clients come to me because they want to make changes in their life - at work, school, or with family - but they feel trapped because of these negative thoughts. These thoughts can lead to excessive guilt, hopelessness, and indecision. As a therapist trained in cognitive behavioral therapy, I am committed to working together with you in helping you get unstuck.

I moved to Seattle in 2017 after spending the previous ten years on the East Coast in New York City and Washington, DC. I grew up in Omaha, Nebraska as a Jewish gay kid who always felt “out of place” in a community where these identities were largely invisible. I also lost my mother to cancer at the tender age of 16 while attempting to accept my gay identity. As a therapist, these experiences have helped me develop resiliency and to better understand how oppressive systems can create feelings of loneliness, isolation, despair, and hopelessness.

Therapy helps you put your relationships, and you, in a better place. Many of us know when things don’t feel right but don't address it. I work with individuals and couples to improve connections with romantic partners and other close relationships, with specialties in the LGBTQ community, young adult, and jewish communities. Whether you are looking for a relationship or have been in one for years, talking is the first step toward making positive change. Lets find your old rhythm. Or create a new one for you.

How can I find a therapist in New York?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
