I am a bi-lingual Russian speaking therapist.
I believe strongly in the positive effects of therapy at any stage of life. Therapy is an amazing healing experience. It provides the opportunity to discuss, relate and unburdan oneself in a confidential, non-judgmental and relaxed environment. While we can't change difficult situations in the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life. My goal is to help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating.

I am a bilingual English/ Russian -speaking psychologist with 10+ years of experience.
We all have a vision of what we want our lives to be. Yet there often comes a point when we recognize that something is just not working in the way that we imagined it would. Our home life is a mess. The kids do not listen. The job is not what we anticipated. We feel frustrated by those around us, but too tired or too overwhelmed to do anything about it. Self-care is only an aspiration.... While we may feel stuck in the circumstances, there is also the desire to break the cycle and try something different. That is where I come in.

I hold a license in Mental Health Counseling and completed comprehensive post-graduate training in psychotherapy and psychoanalysis. The people I work with have often found themselves on a journey to better understand the obstacles in their lives and to acquire the skills to overcome them. Many of my clients are looking to address mood and anxiety issues related to challenges with specific stressful situations or relationships, or perhaps questions about long-standing patterns that have resulted in a sense of dissatisfaction in life. A common focus is to deepen awareness of internal conflicts and develop new ways to resolve them.

I work in English and Russian languages.
As a psychotherapist with years of clinical, supervisory, and forensic experience, I know that we all may need help when we feel lost or unhappy. Each of us experiences it differently and may benefit from various approaches. I work in multiple modalities: individually, with couples and families, and with groups. I provide consultations on court custody issues and complicated parenting situations. Presenting problems range from depression, anger, traumatic experiences, grief, anxiety, existential and life transition, to parenting, assertive behavior skills, but almost always involve relational components.

I was born in Ukraine, speak Russian , and incorporate multicultural awareness to my therapeutic work.
We all have an image of how our life could be, but often have barriers that block us from it. Blocks in the shape of anxiety, low self-esteem, bad habits, and others can keep us from achieving the potential that lies within us. I utilize a warm therapeutic approach to establish an alliance full of empathy and free of judgement to openly explore your challenges while incorporating sustainable techniques to optimize your overall functioning. Through self exploration and the incorporation of various coping strategies, we can address your barriers and help you reach your full potential.

I welcome Russian speakers and all immigrants who struggle with homesickness, dislocation, and the pressures of acculturation.
Psychoanalytic therapy is a mode of intensive listening that provides you with a protected space to say anything that comes to mind; it is a chance to explore thoughts and feelings that you previously have not been able to articulate to yourself and to others. Psychoanalysis is a unique, extraordinary relationship that facilitates the emergence of novel and surprising ways of seeing and thinking. Inhibitions and destructive conflicts in areas of creative pursuit, career, relationships, and sex dissipate, leading to new possibilities and experiences, and the alleviation of anxiety and suffering.

Additionally, I am a Russian speaking therapist and therefore have a deep understanding of and connection to Russian community and culture.
"The most difficult times for many of us are the ones we give ourselves." Many struggles in life are made worse by our own harsh judgment and guilt about our experience. I strive to foster a genuine, Com, validating, and nonjudgmental therapeutic environment. I work collaboratively with individuals to assist them in recognizing their capacity for change and increasing self-compassion and self-esteem to improve their quality of life. In therapy, I support patients in gaining greater insight and understanding, as well as acquiring the skills necessary to conquer their unique experience of suffering.

How can I find a therapist in New York?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
