While I center your story in our work together, I draw on my own experiences as an
African American
woman of color, parent of two, and poet when appropriate.
The therapeutic relationship is a sacred interpersonal bond built on trust. Together, we’ll co-create a space to overcome your obstacles, shift lifestyle or behavioral patterns, and tap into your innate capacity for resilience. I view my work through an anti-oppressive social justice lens, which will deepen your understanding of how your environment, your family, and your community can impact you. We may explore anything from the trickle down effect of workplace stress, to the impact of media violence on children, or anything else that may be on your mind.

I am invested in working with the
Black
/African diaspora community, and individuals struggling with racialized trauma.
I work with clients to help them navigate multiple life stressors, specifically around relationship issues, intimacy, struggles with identity, and career goals. I hold degrees in social work (which focused on a better understanding of social context and it’s impact on various communities) as well as counseling psychology (which looks more specifically at human development and individual process). This makes for a well rounded foundation in connecting with the stories of others, in addition to 19 years working with elders, adults, youth, individuals with disabilities, as well as victims of crisis and trauma.

I am also co-founder of a collective of
Black
Mental health practitioners based in Paris and continue to promote Art therapy/ecotherapy through other NGO work.
My clients are postcolonial, queer, subaltern, disabled, invisibilised survivors of everyday microagressions or complex trauma. Like my clients I am polycultural, multilingual, queer and attuned to queries on acculturation, multiple social identities, identity shifting, parenting minority or neuroatypical children, intercultural couples, as well as accidental, disabling or climacteric transitions. My clients want to come to terms with their complexities — those invalidated because of primary or secondary socialisation. Exploring symbolic language allows for production of new knowledge of self and self-(re)actualisation. Paris based.

I am a
Black
woman therapist who is trauma informed, anti-oppressive, relationally oriented.
You often wonder what tomorrow will bring but instead of excitement and hopefulness, you feel nervous or a sense of dread. You imagine all the things that could go wrong which then makes you feel sad and scared. It’s been hard for you to enjoy your life. You’re not sure why you always think of the negatives. Perhaps it's because of your past pain. You’ve learned that anticipating the worst would protect you from getting hurt, taken advantage of or disappointed. And this thought process has kept you safe, but now is ruining your mood and your ability to be happy.

As
Black
men a lot of us have been socialized in ways that makes maintaining deep relationships a challenge. Whether the cause is unresolved trauma, communication skills that need improvement, socialized masculinity or anything else, allowing the issue to go unresolved creates tension with others where there should be harmony. A lot of us developed defenses for remaining safe in a world we feel isn’t safe for us. However, we create worlds within our relationships and when we continue to deploy defenses in spaces that are safe for us we prevent ourselves from loving and receiving love to the best of our ability.

Do people assume you have it all together, but you're struggling with anxiety, depression, or trauma that overwhelms your thoughts and emotions? Maybe you want to feel as confident and in control (on the inside) as other people think you are on the outside. You may look like you've got it all together, whether a mother or a corporate executive, but sometimes even the "strong one" needs support. As a
Black
woman and a therapist, I understand how race, ethnicity, gender, and social inequities impact people of color and how important it is to experience being both seen, heard, and empowered to thrive.

As an
African American
woman, I prioritize the intersectionality of culture and mental health as sometimes our environments have created barriers to accessing wellness.
Life can bring about challenges from finding safety and security within the spaces we are in to struggling with self advocacy. From the instability created throughout the pandemic, to exploring the impact of your cultural identity, or learning to heal as a trauma survivor (including racial trauma), you will be provided with an affirming and strength-focused space for you to be heard as you address any of these areas and more. I embody a warm, collaborative therapeutic style that allows you to join in designing the path of exploration and goals that we work towards together.

Working with LGBTQ/GNC clients, especially clients of color, is what I've always been passionate about. As a queer, trans-masculine,
Black
clinician, I am dedicated to not only working with the communities that mirror my own marginalized identities, but also those who fall within, between, and among populations facing oppression and discrimination. Clients are often in the throes of identify formation, large life changes, processing trauma, and navigating difficult relational dynamics, leading to the desire to be seen and heard. To be human is to experience pain, but within that pain is a vast space to learn, process, and heal.

A queer, biracial
Black
woman born into a multicultural family, one of my proudest achievements was when I became the first person in my family to earn a university degree.
I have the honor of accompanying fellow LGBTQIA+ individuals of color, especially those moving through life transitions, first-generation undergraduate & graduate students, academics, artists, writers, and those holding intersectional identities rooted in multicultural and interracial families, partnerships, and transcultural and/or adult adoption. In addition, I work with couples as well as poly individuals and ethically/consensually non-monogamous partnerships.

“Be easy. take your time. you are coming home to yourself”- Nayyirah Waheed I find this quote matches my approach as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in New York. I like to bring a culturally and identity affirming, trauma informed lens to my work with clients. As a socially conscious BIPOC (
Black
, Indigenous or Person of Color), I take deliberate care to recognize, respect and celebrate all of the identities of my clients. By slowing down, we are able to find and care for the parts of ourselves that are often hidden, ignored, and might even be hurting the most. I see therapy as a collaborative process.

How can I find a therapist in New York?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
