Therapists Beginning With M in New York
My focus in working with patients is for them to feel deeply understood by me and to feel safe in exploring their issues, whatever they might be. This understanding is best accomplished, in my mind, through the use of empathy. What is it like for you to be you? For me, the relationship between patient and therapist must point in the direction of healing oneself and through oneself, others. I fundamentally believe, like others before me, that the patient is the one who guides the process. Similarly, it is the patient who is my best teacher.

When the nagging voice in your head that wonders why? why is life so hard for me? becomes loud enough, sometimes you realize you need help finding the answer to that question. Being a human in 2024 can be a terrifying thing. Our society normalizes harm. Our families normalize harm. When painful things happen, we often have to disconnect from parts of ourselves in order to survive. In that self-abandonment, we learn to neglect ourselves, manifesting in our health, finances, career or sometimes even actively harm ourselves in the name of avoiding the true source of our suffering.

Even as language may not be confined to the word, my work is to listen. Psychoanalysis works to resolve repetitions in dreams, habits, and interactions. This can be difficult and surprising, and have a significant effect on your symptoms, anxieties, and capacity to participate and find joy in work and social life.

Life presents us with challenges that can interfere with health and wholeness. We each have the ability to approach and integrate these challenges, yet it is easier with support. I work with individuals and couples of all ages seeking help with: life transitions, grief, anxiety, depression, personal identity, LGBTQ, relationship concerns, and alternative lifestyles, including consensual nonmonogamy. I also work with individuals navigating demanding and competitive high-profile careers in finance, law, healthcare, and the arts. Together we will nurture resiliency, empowerment, wholeness, and well-being.

I use a strengths-based approach and believe that each person is their own best therapist. I collaborate with clients to understand their counseling goals and the methods for transformation that work best for them. Together we will add skills and tools to help navigate life with more ease. I invite the whole person to participate in our work together so we can be informed by the wisdom of the mind, body, and heart. I believe that as people reclaim their sense of self, they are empowered to heal and grow.

The journey of therapy should be something you are drawn toward, not something you have to convince yourself to do. I want my clients to look forward to coming to their sessions, especially when what we're working through is tough. Therapy is a serious and powerful undertaking, but it doesn't have to be ominous. I think being down-to-earth and as lighthearted as possible about the institution of therapy helps to make it feel more accessible and fight any stigma attached to it. I look forward to working with you, you and your partner, or your family!

Do you feel lost and uncertain what your "purpose" is? Are you longing to live a more authentic, joyful life? I myself have faced these same questions. My name is Tyler, and I'm an NYC-based queer, trans & multicultural therapist. I believe that the values and beliefs that we learn in childhood can hold us back from living in alignment with ourselves and finding true contentment. In therapy, we will examine and shed unhelpful beliefs that hold you back, and uncover your most authentic self. I am passionate about supporting young adults navigating the transition out of school, dating in the city, and finding passion in their career.
