Counseling is my second career. I have always been in a helping profession and my journey to becoming a clinician began as a teacher. Helping others has always been a passion of mine whether it was in the classroom or in a counseling office. In every client that I have ever had the privilege to be a part of their journey, it has always been my sincere hope that I could at least plant a seed of hope and inspiration. I see clients with various issues. I focus on teen and women issues but do see individuals for many other issues, such as trauma and depression.

Skip feels a connection when helping others develop insight to make positive changes in their lives. Skip believes that thoughts and feelings are the impetus that drive human behavior. His approach then to therapy is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Theory. In creating a paradigm shift from negative thoughts and feelings to increased positive thoughts and feelings, maladaptive behaviors often dissipate. Skip also believes that traumatic experiences exacerbate the lives of many of his clients and therefore, utilizes Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

I am a positive and energetic clinical mental health counselor with extensive experience treating a very broad range of clients. I truly have a passion for helping people make positive changes within their lives. I have worked with individuals, couples, families and children and I have extensive experience and training in trauma, sexual issues, childhood and family dynamic issues, couples and families. I have also had the opportunity to educated other therapists as faculty at various colleges and universities.

I have been providing mental health and substance abuse treatment for both adults and adolescents for over 12 years. I currently provide psychotherapy and clinical supervision in the Las Cruces area. I am experienced at treating adults, couples and families and my primary goal is to assist clients in achieving their full potential. I have experience treating depression, anxiety, substance abuse, trauma and loss, relationship difficulties and life change challenges. I believe this is best achieved by building a relationship in a supportive, nonjudgmental partnership that acknowledges the strengths and potential of each individual client that creates a sense of hope.
