Many claim to “understand” the LGBTQIA+ and kink/alt communities… but have never truly lived, worked, or connected within them.
TABOO? Not here! This is your space to say the things you’ve been told to keep quiet. To explore what others fear to discuss. To be fully you. I’m a CBT-focused therapist with a solution-driven approach—mixed with just enough humor to make even the tough stuff feel doable. Healing. Understanding. Growth. No judgment. No shame. Just the real work, done

I’m Lauren, a queer therapist and doctoral-level clinician who believes therapy is a collaborative space for growth, not a place where you’re talked down to or pathologized. I show up as a real person in the room — curious, direct, and grounded in the belief that you are the expert in your own life. My work is rooted in feminist, existential, and trauma-informed frameworks, which means we won’t ignore how identity, power, culture, and systems shape your mental health and relationships. I don’t expect you to fit into a diagnostic box; we’ll work together to define what healing and growth actually mean for you.

Living life is about making mistakes, taking wrong turns, falling down, and continuing to get back up. Getting everything right is not possible. Making these choices can be more educational than heartbreaking. It's all about perspective and having someone to listen to you without judging. All anyone needs is to know that they have one person who is there for them; a person who will listen, and see them for the value they bring and not the choices they have made. Confusion, discouragement, frustration, and loneliness do not have to be your only choices. Someone that reminds you that you matter, will make all the difference.

Welcome! I'm glad you're here. Many of us struggle with chronic stress, overwhelm, and overall dissatisfaction, impacting our ability to feel present, connected, liberated and embodied in our work, relationships, and daily lives. This may show up as symptoms of anxiety, confusion, irritability, numbness, anger, sadness, or isolation, or perhaps more intense experiences like explosiveness, disassociation, or hopelessness. Whether a result of past trauma or present circumstances, we can work together to explore and address wounds and patterns that keep you stuck and help you to live a life that feels good to you.

My question to my clients is how do you see your best self? I want to be able to get you there. I wholeheartedly believe in meeting the client where they are at and giving genuine support. As a therapist, I don’t want to tell you what to do. I’d rather help guide you in the right direction and help you to be comfortable with the decisions you make. If you find it difficult to socialize, experience loneliness or struggle with grief or trauma, talk to me. Together, we can work on solutions that allow you to address the root causes and help build a better you. Please note I only do telehealth with ages 17 and up.

You have already invested in personal growth, learned mindfulness, meditate, focus on your wellness... and yet... you still feel stuck. You find yourself apologizing to the waitress when you ask for more salad dressing. You have trouble speaking up to your partner for fear of being called dramatic, too much or over-sensitive. You hate when people post your picture without showing you first. You hear whispers of the old you who wanted big things and know that it is your intuition calling. You want to stop feeling small. You want to make peace with old wounds. You are ready to take up space without apology.

I subscribe to the belief that the unexamined life is not conducive to living your best life. I am a psychodynamic, eclectic and holistic psychotherapist working with adults, adolescents and couples whom experience symptoms of depression, anxiety or interpersonal conflict, and often those working through deep existential crisis. With my guidance and empathetic stance, I will help you explore and challenge old beliefs and current behaviors so that you may gain insight and deep understanding into how some past events, (even those which are seemingly insignificant) are having an effect on your current functioning.

Sex-Positive, Kink Allied Therapists

Why might an individual want to see a sex-positive, kink-allied therapist?

A sex-positive or kinky individual may want to see a sex-positive, kink-allied therapist because the client may feel safer and more supported discussing their experiences and challenges. A therapist who identifies as kink-friendly will have experience with clients having diverse sexual preferences and will likely be nonjudgmental and supportive about issues brought to the table. It is important to note that sex-positive, kink-allied individuals may find equal success with therapists who do not have such specialized knowledge and background. The most important factor in the success of therapy is for the client and practitioner to form a strong, trusting bond.

Do therapists have special training to gain expertise in sex-positive, kink-allied treatment?

Generally, no. There are limited training programs and unofficial accreditations that therapists can pursue, but a therapist’s expertise will ultimately come from their previous experience with similar clients, their engagement with organizations that promote sex positivity or kink-allied lifestyles, and the importance they place on safety and cultural sensitivity.

How can individuals recognize a good sex-positive, kink-allied therapist?

An experienced therapist is able to help clients explore their sexual identity and expression and relieve any discomfort or stigma attached to discussing such matters and the client’s overall challenges. A therapist who is sex-positive and kink-allied is able to create an environment that honors a client’s experience and sexual preferences. To recognize a good therapist, clients can simply ask directly about topics and issues important to them and gauge their comfort level and connection with a clinician based on the responses.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist with a focus on sex positivity and alternative sexual lifestyles?

Some individuals may feel most comfortable knowing that the clinician they’re working with has a commitment to creating an atmosphere of sex positivity and has experience with relationship diversity and alternative relationship structures. Working with a sex-positive, kink-allied therapist may help clients respect their own challenges and improve identity-affirming treatment.
