Jeffrey Ly I Porn Addiction Relationship
MA, LPHA, AMFT
Pornography addiction can significantly impact your life and relationships but there is hope for recovery. I’m not just a mental health professional, I’ve been “you” for many years. I understand firsthand the personal struggles in your life and committed relationships that come with uncontrollable pornography use. The endless stream of attractive women a few clicks away on Pornhub, Onlyfan or Social Media is hard to quit even with all your willpower and promise to quit for the sake of your relationship.

I specialize in helping adult individuals recover from trauma and addiction with talk therapy and EMDR. My clients have been through things like childhood neglect/abuse, intimate partner violence, assault, family conflict, or abuses within a faith community. Many also want to change their relationship with alcohol or drugs, or have been impacted by addiction. I'm here to help. I have extensive training in recovery work and trauma-informed care including EMDR, an approach that can reduce the triggering factors associated with traumatic memories. I am experienced in treating depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, trauma, unresolved issues, life-transition difficulties, family/relational problems, and grief and loss. While I have extensive experience working with individuals of Asian decent, they comprise only 30% of my clientele and I am well-rounded in treating individuals from various cultural and religious backgrounds. I am dedicated to bring genuine, compassionate, and evidence-based care to my clients. After a thorough assessment of my client's presenting concern and history, I collaborate with my client to formulate a treatment plan that is highly individualized.

Although I obtained a significant amount of knowledge as a therapeutic provider and underwent professional training, I myself do not claim to be an expert on my clients. I ultimately view clients as the true experts on themselves and I, as the therapist, am their creative partner in becoming the “best” version of themselves. Not only do I believe clients are the experts on themselves, but I also believe that clients are the heroes of their own stories. During the course of the journey, the hero often has to integrate parts of themselves and the world that surrounds them to become an agent of better change.

Whether you're a veteran or a newcomer, starting therapy can be one of the most taxing and anxiety provoking things we can imagine. Many of us live day by day worried about what may happen or what has happened, and eventually it starts to consume how we think and behave. We start to lie to ourselves and others about what is happening, and we start to feel trapped and hopeless. Everyday seems to be a battle and we crave a release.

Going through life transitions can be difficult and meeting personal, societal and family expectations can certainly add to those challenges. I specialize in supporting and counseling first and second-generation immigrants, young adults, BIPOC, and international student populations by addressing the different challenges you are facing. You are resilient, strong, and a survivor, and have overcome difficulties in your life. At this time, you would like to work with someone who understands you culturally to restore hope and remind you of your strengths, and introduce you to new skills that will empower you to find your balance.

I love to work with people who juggle multiple cultures: your original one and evolving one. You might be here as an international student or on business. You might be here to raise a family but feel like you don't belong. You might be raised by 1st generation Asian parents. You might be in a relationship where you and your partner come from different cultural backgrounds. Do you often choose silence to avoid conflict in a relationship? Do you feel you are taken lightly because you are from different country or culture? I work with clients individually as well as with intercultural and interracial couples.

Understanding why people suffer, how they change, and how to help them live more satisfying and gratifying lives is a fascinating, huge, and important undertaking. For this reason, finding a clinician with appropriate life experiences, training, humility, and willingness to learn what makes each person unique is one of the most difficult challenges for those seeking counseling/therapy today. I would like an opportunity to help you to live the life you have always wanted.

How can I find a therapist in New Jersey?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
