Having trouble finding a partner worth your time? Wish your current partner understood you better? Do you love your family yet they still manage to push your buttons? Do you feel like you are just going through the motions at work and would love to be more engaged in what you do? One of our greatest needs is to be loved and understood yet so few of us feel that way in our relationships. Another important need is to have meaningful work yet often times most people trade their passions for what they feel to be a safe and secure job. This can lead to feelings of anxiety, depression and lack of meaning. My goal is to change all that.

SPECIALITY/TREATMENT MODALITIES anxiety disorders, OCD, eating disorders, depression , BPD, bi-polar disorder, C-PTSD, PTSD.
My approach to therapy is based on creating a strong relationship with my clients: a place where they feel safe to explore their lives . I always work collaboratively with my clients to find what techniques and therapeutic environment they need to grow, and heal. I believe that having an empathic, open, and caring therapist is where successful therapy begins. I place a strong emphasis on making my clients feel comfortable, welcome, and safe. I do not believe that one approach in therapy will work for everyone.

Clients come to me for relief of symptoms of anxiety and depression , and to learn to process how trauma or complex trauma may be impacting their lives today and how to move forward from it. They also seek to gain insight into why they do what they do, to improve their agency or control over their own lives, to learn how to recognize and deal with feelings, to build their self-esteem and to find more pleasure and serenity in their lives. As we work towards the goals clients become ready and willing to make the real behavioral changes that will make a positive difference in their lives.

I believe the therapy relationship is sacred because it is a space to discuss anything- free of judgement. Therapy is a space to learn coping skills, process choices/events, clarify goals and the pathway to achieve them, manage life changes, move past trauma, or regain your voice. I am passionate about empowering individuals with the skills they need to minimize stress, maximize peace and joy, and identifying the pathway to health- honoring the best version of you. I have experience working with clients with codependence and family issues, anxiety/ depression , self-care challenges, PTSD/ trauma, health issues, and hoarding.

I have primarily treated patients with issues related to relationships, intimacy, anxiety, depression , identity, existential, religious, spiritual, gender, racial, adolescence, family systems, organizational issues while setting practical and productive goals.
I had my first position as a counselor when I was just 20 and the compassion that lived through me then continues 47 years later. While developing professionally I enrolled in a personal individual and group training analysis and had a deep and caring experience as a patient. I consider it an incredible responsibility to practice as an integrative healer as I believe the therapeutic relationship is a privilege between two people. I continue to cultivate my personal practice, evolving throughout my life with an open heart, and open mind. My mother, and father remain central influences in my practice as a psychologist/psychoanalyst.

I've worked with people suffering from anxiety, depression and trauma for over 20 years.
Your emotional needs are important and deserve attention and time. There's no need to suffer alone and in silence when help is available. With treatment, people are capable of transformation, healing and positive self-development. I take a mindbody approach and integrate mindfulness, EMDR, SE®, DBT and craniosacral therapies for healing. If you're suffering from trauma, if you're in the perinatal phase of your life and transitioning to parenthood, if you're having insomnia or sleep issues, please feel comfortable to give me a call for a free 15 minute phone consultation to discuss your situation.

I work with teenagers and adults experiencing depression , anxiety, anger, PTSD, domestic violence, sexual abuse, gambling addiction, and chronic pain.
Are you lost in your reactions and emotions and feel like life is “unraveling”? It takes a lot of strength and courage to seek help. Taking that first step to therapy can feel difficult, uncomfortable, and even downright scary. All these feelings are common. My goal is to provide a safe environment to begin the healing process. Early life experiences shape how we view the world, ourselves, our thoughts, and behaviors. Over time old patterns that once helped protect us are no longer useful and can cause disruption in our lives and interfere with developing meaningful relationships.

Anxiety, depression , and self-esteem issues can show up in our relationships. Relationships are key to a healthy psyche - those with ourselves, friends, family, co-workers, and partners. Often times, one or more of those relationships aren't going how we want them to, potentially because of underlying issues in ourselves, or in them. I can help you address the underlying causes so that your life feels more joyful, smooth, and aligned with your desires. I know I can help you because I've helped heal hundreds experiencing anxiety, depression , self-esteem, and relationship issues, including myself.

I specialize in the treatment of PTSD, anxiety and depression , and am certified in EMDR(Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), CPT and MI.
Frequently, people who have experienced trauma develop extraordinary survival skills. Often the strategies that were critical for survival when you were a child, thwart the ability to develop satisfying work, family and/or romantic relationships in adulthood. Psychotherapy provides an opportunity to transcend patterns that are holding you back from achieving your goals, and realizing your potential. This often includes addressing family, career, and relationship issues within the treatment as well as recognizing thinking and/or behavior which may be harmful or holding you back.

Everyone comes to The Work in their own way, for their own reasons, in their own time. For some, that reason is to seek a safe space to explore and grow as they need; to others its a dedicated ear and a mind trained to help them resolve emotional conflicts, stress, anxiety, depression , etc.; still others simply seek to be seen and embraced (in all their human messiness) by someone who understands. Whatever journey has lead you here, my goal is to help you step into the fullness of your beautiful self and live the best life possible - in ways that are person centered, trauma informed, and anti-oppressive.

Educated at Dartmouth and Rutgers and the affiliated Smithers Addiction Center, I have twenty years experience dealing with clinical depression , anxiety, and addictive disorders.
I am a psychologist, father, husband, poet, athlete, and lover of truth. I believe that too few clients know what makes a psychologist good enough to make a difference. I am a humble, intelligent, insightful, and directive therapist who understands both sides of the couch and gives 100% to each patient. I am trained as a scholar in cognitive-behavioral sciences, and I have specialties in child-loss, depression , and addiction. I meld cognitive behavioral psychology with the rich, non-judgmental zen of Buddhist beliefs. I am the father of Alessandra LoConte (1993-2015), and I help other bereaved parents restore balance after trauma.

Teletherapy
Teletherapy and Online counseling have grown enormously as a medium for therapy since the advent of social distancing. Most therapists are happy to provide sessions by video or phone.

All professionals are licensed to provide video therapy to clients within the State in which they hold their license. Cross State licensing exists, but is rare.

So if you're a client in New Jersey, this list of teletherapists are licensed to provide therapy to you online (by phone, video or text based chat) because they are within your state. They are sorted nearest to furthest, with professionals in New Jersey listed first.

Teletherapy via phone or video can be very similar to conventional in person sessions. The message is the same, even if the medium is different. There are some advantages in the form of convenience, lack of travel and being in comfort of your own home. Set against those, professionals find it more difficult to read non-verbal signals of their clients, and you may find you yourself can be more easily distracted.
