My name is Nelson Thomas. I recently graduated the Master’s of Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program at Lamar University in Dec of 2025. I currently am working towards securing my license and seeing clients at our Brenham office of Brazos Valley Mental Health and Wellness and online under the supervision of Sherry Haferkamp-Watson, Psy.D. I take clients of all backgrounds, ages ten and up. My hours are flexible to accommodate most individual schedules to include both day and evening hours. Currently, I see clients every weekday except Thursday, and Saturdays for emergency situations.
Being a disabled vet who served 19 years as a firefighter/EMT in the Air Force, I have witnessed the impact of individuals who have struggled with PTSD, anxiety/depression, bipolar disorder, and substance abuse. As a result, my passion for helping others resulted in becoming the founder and Executive Director of Survivors Against Suicide (non-profit org).
When you are experiencing life’s challenges, it can sometimes feel overwhelming. You may feel as if you are alone but this is the furthest from the truth. I am here to guide you back to yourself.
