Living life can be difficult and overwhelming at times. When you are ready to make time for yourself and face the problems preventing you from having the life you want; or when you don't know which way to turn and need support in finding your way... that is the time to reach out and call. I will listen and hear your voice so I in turn can help you hear your needs and desires in your life.

Life is a journey. How often have you heard that? As we find our road through life, we all need inspiration and guidance. Having an outside perspective to navigate that journey can help us view our path through a different lens. It is my goal as your therapist to create a safe, supportive, and accepting environment for you to share your story. I believe that there is no one-size-fits-all approach for therapy. Whether it's learning coping skills, practicing mindfulness, or just having someone to talk to, I get it. Life isn't easy and you don't have to tackle this journey alone.

I have ample experience in aiding those who are overcoming both new and long term trauma that has begun to have various affects on a persons life. In my time as a clinician, I have adopted a mentality of "one step at a time", taking bite size pieces out of overall symptoms to help bring some relief while bigger issues are addressed. If you're on the fence about therapy and concerned you "won't know what to talk about", we could be a good match! I'm very skilled at helping people open up and guiding a productive and satisfying session to help those who aren't sure what they want out of therapy, they just know they want some help.

Hi, I’m Joana, a child and family therapist. I’m so glad you’re here. Taking the step to seek support shows how much you care, and it’s often the hardest step. Parenting can be rewarding but also overwhelming. As a mom, I understand how challenging it can feel, and you don’t have to do it alone.

I focus on supporting my clients in managing intense emotions and tackling tough situations using DBT (therapy focused on acceptance, finding a balance in life, and managing emotions in healthy ways) and CBT (therapy focused on how thoughts impact your feelings and behaviors).
Accepting new clients. I would love to help you get started on your path to healing. Life may suck right now, but hang in there……It can get better! It can be hard to see a way forward, and you might be wondering if you’ll ever make it to your next chapter in life. But this is just one part of your story. Your journey isn’t over, and even the toughest chapters can lead to something better. Keep going, because the next part of your story might be where everything starts to change.

While there is no one-size-fits-all approach, through exploration and collaboration between you and me, reflective listening, a nonjudgmental, trusting atmosphere, and compassionate leadership will allow you to vent your emotions/feelings, express your thoughts, and put the skills of Cognitive Behavioral/ Dialectical Behavioral therapeutic services to use.
I have a strong belief that every creature has a given talent that makes it its own subject matter expert. With that in mind, my job is to provide you with a friendly atmosphere to realize and strengthen your coping mechanism and problem-solving approach that is unique and specific to you in a trusting environment where your confidentiality is taken for granted.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists
Who is DBT for?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
