Emotionally Focused Therapists in Platte County, NE
My journey to healing and recovery began in 2004 after a personal tragedy altered my life. Consequently, I chose a path of self-discovery, gained insight and gradually rebuilt myself through counseling & education. Ultimately, I gained a perspective that allowed me to empathize with others on a level that I never imagined was possible. I was able to transform my life story and re-route my path as a survivor. For almost two decades, I have utilized compassionate empathy in combination with therapeutic techniques & motivational interviewing strategies to enhance motivation, induce transformation and evoke positive outcomes of change.

It takes a great deal of energy second guessing your decisions and worrying that you are failing yourself and those around you. And once you expend that much "mental energy" spinning your wheels, irritations and feelings of inadequacy increase. It doesn’t take long to then feel like you're losing control and wonder what you keep doing wrong. When this happens, we often distance ourselves further, we stop expressing our feelings, and we begin to suffer in silence. And, it can be scary reaching out to a counselor because you really want to connect with them.

Today was the worst day of your life. You feel like you want to blow things up and then to put the icing on the cake your belt loop hooked on the door handle and ripped your favorite pair of jeans. You're fed up and don’t have the best set of coping skills. You turn to anger, substances or impulsive behavior. You’re sick and tired of feeling like you don’t have a safe place to be yourself and work through your crap. I see you and I have been there too. It’s scary to think about what life could look like once you find a new way to process the things you’re dealing with in a healthy and safe way.

Most clients come to me when life has hit them hard and they feel stuck. Something within them is screaming that they want more, but they don’t know how to get there and where to turn. To me therapy is a beautiful dance. One in which the client leads me to the inner-most crevices of their heart, and the light is suddenly turned on, bringing clarity, healing, and victory to the darkness. It is in this place that they are filled up to overflow, where they can thrive, love the life they are living, and pour into the lives around them.

In today’s busy world, it can feel like life is slipping through your fingers. Maybe you’re overwhelmed, overloaded, and just waiting for a moment of relief. Sometimes hopelessness creeps in, making it hard to find motivation or even know what direction to go. Other times, you may simply long for something more—more meaning, more connection, more joy. We all want relationships that feel genuine, days that feel fulfilling, and still the space to rest and play. Balancing it all is hard, and you don’t have to do it on your own.

We are made for relationships. When those relationships become strained, distant, or broken, the rest of life begins to feel overwhelming. Life is already difficult. It's unbearable to do it alone.
Good therapy helps people relate to others in healthier ways: clear boundaries, emotional awareness, and honesty.
Your past shapes your present, but it doesn't have to define your future. Together, we will look closely at the patterns, wounds, and conflicts that keep you stuck. Whether it's something from three days ago or three decades ago, you can move forward with clarity and heal the relationships that matter the most.

Sometimes we lose ourselves when we get caught up in the way we think we "should" be in relationships, workspaces, and social expectations. Losing or ignoring who we truly are can lead to relationship issues, depression, anxiety, and general life dissatisfaction. Losing ourselves can happen due to traumatic life circumstances and/or years of unrelenting pressures. Let's get curious about your passions, work together to let go of what's not working, and build a roadmap so you can step in to a more authentic you.

Emotionally Focused Therapists
Who is emotionally focused therapy for?
Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.
Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?
People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.
What happens in emotionally focused therapy?
Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.
What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?
EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
