I address a variety of issues, including trauma , through traditional talk therapy in the form of CBT and DBT.
What does it mean to "take care of your mental health?" It's easier to tell when you aren't taking care of it: chronic stress, exhaustion, worry, and panic are all signs your mental health is suffering. If untreated, you could start having nightmares, poor health, trouble in your relationships, and difficulty staying on top of work or school. There are many things that can lead to mental health struggles, like a too-busy schedule, a chronic illness or someone else's troubles, a major life transition, or a death of someone close to you. Or, it could seem to come out of the blue, caused by nothing at all.

I'm an experienced therapist who has worked closely with patients diagnosed with chronic mental health symptoms and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder.
Are you feeling overwhelmed, anxious, and depressed? You may be tired from trying to give everyone your best and still feel like you aren't enough. I believe that healing occurs when the mind, body, and spirit are acknowledged, nurtured, and allowed the freedom to fully transform. If we aren't living our life intentionally we unknowingly block the best versions of ourselves from emerging. Do you become fearful of success, self-sabotage growth, and yet continue to seek deeper meaning and purpose in your life? If this message resonates with you it's time to do something different! Ask yourself - What's the best that can happen?

I have spent over 17 years treating trauma in the community.
It is difficult, if not impossible to go through life and not experience some type of painful life experience. Whether we have had painful experiences since childhood or a single episode, the long-lasting effects, if gone untreated, can be detrimental. These unresolved painful experiences effect our lives in so many ways that it can start to influence our thinking, decisions, and overall way of living. It becomes difficult to have healthy relationships, hold jobs, and take care of ourselves. It is important to find relief and resolution from these experiences so you can start to live the life you deserve.

As a retired law enforcement officer, I can also relate to the effects of trauma and stress unique to being a first responder.
When we are struggling with depression, anxiety, anger, guilt, or shame, the negative things we believe about ourselves are probably the culprits. Our thoughts about an experience or event can powerfully affect our entire being and therapy can help get to core issues causing it. If you experienced a traumatic event, whether in childhood or as an adult; if you are or were a first responder and are experiencing isolation/detachment, hypervigilence, depression, nightmares, flashbacks, or panic attacks, techniques in therapy can enable your brain to process the traumatic experience which will alleviate the debilitating symptoms.

Anxiety, depression, trauma , relationship and addiction are the areas in which I have special interest, professional and personal experience.
I work best with adolescent and adult clients who appreciate a direct, to-the-point approach. I give lots of feedback and make my thoughts known. This approach tends to open up awarenesses that may have been unknown for a very long time. It is exciting to see this process unfold in individual psychotherapy.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
