My experience includes a variety of therapeutic techniques which allow me to more effectively treat a broad spectrum of client needs including depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, PTSD, ADHD, and improving relationships, to name a few.
There are challenges in everyone’s life that can seem daunting. At such times, we need and deserve an understanding, compassionate, knowledgeable guide to assist us in identifying the thoughts and feelings associated with our current difficulties. Factors like background, ethnicity, race, and family dynamics are significant contributing elements that can be essential to clarifying and understanding the client’s situation. The goal for each client is to develop an achievable course of action that leads to effectively managing and reducing their distress.

Life is a journey. How often have you heard that? As we find our road through life, we all need inspiration and guidance. Having an outside perspective to navigate that journey can help us view our path through a different lens. It is my goal as your therapist to create a safe, supportive, and accepting environment for you to share your story. I believe that there is no one-size-fits-all approach for therapy. Whether it's learning coping skills, practicing mindfulness, or just having someone to talk to, I get it. Life isn't easy and you don't have to tackle this journey alone.

All humans have strengths and develop strategies for coping with life's unique challenges and stressors. Sometimes the strategies we come up with are helpful and sometimes they do more to interfere with life than help. If you believe you or your child are experiencing difficulties coping with or adjusting to life's stressors that are interfering with school or work, peer and family relationships, or overall quality of life, then therapy may be a helpful next step.

Encountering stressors on a weekly basis - or even daily basis - are common human experiences. Whether it's at work, school, home, sport, or various other public settings, you can learn ways to gradually feel relief and move forward through therapy. Sometimes it can feel as if our problems may never go away, especially if we feel we are the only ones going through it. But having a person there to talk to and be a listening ear can help ease that tension slightly, or more preferred, tremendously. My approach to counseling begins with meeting the client where they are and walking with them on their journey to where they want to be.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
