parenting
, healing from trauma, and substance use counseling.
Let’s come together to discover your courage to grow, adapt, and prosper! Therapy is a beautiful process that empowers us to deepen our self knowledge and make breakthroughs in whatever is holding us back; whether things have gotten too difficult or you’re in a longstanding battle of feeling unwell. Your experiences, relationships, mental health and physical health can all have an impact on how you show up in your life. These experiences can build up over time and erode our sense of peace and confidence. Our relationships become strained and we begin to feel more isolated.

Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen - Brene Brown Are you looking for a non-judgemental space to decompress and process through life's tough stuff? Are you seeking tools and tips for when things just feel too messy? When we are experiencing anxiety, depression, or any other intolerable feeling, it can be difficult to manage on our own. I offer a comfortable, non-assuming space to sort through any of life's complexities you or your family is experiencing.

My areas of experience include depression, anxiety, trauma, attachment and relationship issues,
parenting
struggles and worries, and stress/burnout.
I firmly believe my role as a counselor is to listen to, support, and empower individuals. We live in a world that likes to generalize and place us into categories without taking our individual stories into consideration. Having worked in the child welfare system for almost a decade, I saw how the lack of meeting individual needs can negatively impact a person. I believe if counselor and client work together, we can make sense of your individual story and embark on a path towards wholeness. The hardest work is done by the client and I would be honored to walk alongside you on your journey.

I'll give you lots of support, and helpful, current,
parenting
tools.
Is your child or teen getting on your last nerve? Are they defiant, angry, sad or withdrawn? Changes in the family structure, through a breakup, divorce, or death of a family member, often create confusion and unexpressed feelings in kids. Financial worries, relocating, peer pressure, violence, and other stressors at school and in the neighborhood, can lead to behavioral problems. Your child might have stopped opening up to you because they didn't want to worry you, or fear they'd be in trouble. I understand. I specialize in helping school-age children, teens, and their parents through challenging times.

I am deeply interested in the interface between psychology and spirituality with a special focus on forgiveness, coping and mindfulness, brain-based and attachment-focused
parenting
, and schema focused therapy, which well equips me to assist clients facing life transition issues or relationship issues with a spiritual/depth dimension. I view psychotherapy as a venue where I can help my clients to change their beliefs, polish their perceptual lenses, adjust their relational patterns, let go of unnecessary suffering, and develop a deeper capacity for joy by learning to live more mindfully and gratefully.

Everyone deserves to have their voice heard. In our everyday lives we may not always feel that others listen to what we have to say. This can increase feelings of anxiety and depression and eventually overwhelm us to a point where we don’t see any way out. I want you to know that I am here for you. What you have to say and what you think and feel is important. Not only will I listen to you, but I will guide you through the difficult struggles which come your way. You are not alone.

parent
/child difficulties, marital/relationship problems, acute and chronic illness, and grief.
***Telehealth Sessions Available. I believe in taking a systemic approach to therapy, focusing on how we are shaped by emotional, physical, social and spiritual parts of our lives. If one area is being affected the others will be affected as well. I help people look at areas in their lives where they feel stuck and help to create movement in those areas. Using the client's expertise in their own lives I help guide them in creating new, more meaningful and beneficial patterns in their lives. In turn this helps them to reach their full potential.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
