I work with children, adolescents, and adults who have a wide-range of needs including PTSD, grief, anxiety, depression, and more.
Life can be so hard sometimes. Things happen that are unexpected, and we are left searching for answers or trying to cope. Many people feel they have to go through this alone or don't know how to reach out for help. My goal as a therapist is to help give you and/or your child that support you need in a caring and non-judgmental way. Going to therapy can be very scary at first and I will do my best to help you feel comfortable and cared-for from the very beginning.

I have worked with individuals seeking recovery from depression and anxiety, domestic violence/abuse, grief, health issues, trauma and childhood issues to name a few.
Everyone needs understanding, compassion and hope. In today's world that's hard to come by. My hope is that when you come to my office you feel that and trust that what you say is important and how you feel matters. I've created a space that feels comfortable and invites you to be able to share what brought you in and receive the hope that you can and will feel better. We will work together to figure out what's not going well and what you hope to leave with should you chose to work with me.

Thematically, I am deeply interested in grief and life transitions, including the challenges experienced after retirement, or in the face of a major illness.
I would like to offer a safe space to work collaboratively with my clients, in which we can find answers and new understandings as to who they are. Sometimes this will involve running into more questions! Sometimes I will join a couple's efforts to reconnect or a family's journey toward healing. Sometimes we will be looking for acceptance together.

I enjoy working with teenagers and adults struggling with grief, anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, anger, trauma and mood disorders including bipolar disorder.
Seeking treatment for your mental health requires tremendous courage and vulnerability. People of all ages suffer from the effects of mental health stigmas, which can harm their willingness to seek treatment. By partnering with a mental health professional, individuals can achieve a greater state of well-being to thrive, rather than simply survive.

I can help you find your path and walk alongside you as you take those first steps toward balance and holistic growth.

I have professional experience in the medical field, chronic medical illness and grief.
Have you ever been told how strong you are, but that’s the last thing you would describe yourself as? Have the cards that life have given you made you feel like you’re alone on an island, leaving you misunderstood and heard? Has someone ever told you that they understand how you feel, but you question how they could even remotely begin to understand? Do you yearn to find your purpose in life? A cancer diagnosis can find you in a place of loneliness, questioning the meaning of life and seeking your own identity.

Our work together often includes recognizing grief as a natural process of change and growth.
I believe that with caring, experienced support, most people can manage symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress caused by trauma. Using an Engendered Psychoanalytic lens to examine thoughts and behaviors that interfere with developing and maintaining good relationships, people are enabled to develop a new perspective more consistent with healing.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
