I believe empathy, collaboration, and motivation are vital in counseling. As a clinician, I want to learn about what has gotten you to this point. I offer a safe, nonjudgmental environment to help facilitate this. I am particularly interested in your strengths, resources, past efforts, and goals including what you feel can and can't be done. I believe most problems stem from suppressed emotions, interpersonal difficulties, environmental stressors, or distorted beliefs and assumptions. Together, we will work to select the most effective course to achieve changes you want and need.

What does it mean to "take care of your mental health?" It's easier to tell when you aren't taking care of it: chronic stress, exhaustion, worry, and panic are all signs your mental health is suffering. If untreated, you could start having nightmares, poor health, trouble in your relationships, and difficulty staying on top of work or school. There are many things that can lead to mental health struggles, like a too-busy schedule, a chronic illness or someone else's troubles, a major life transition, or a death of someone close to you. Or, it could seem to come out of the blue, caused by nothing at all.

Finding the right therapist is perhaps the most important part of the therapy process. You want someone you can feel comfortable sharing your thoughts and feelings without judgment. You want to know that your therapist has your best interests in mind always, and sees things objectively. You want someone who has advanced training, experience, skill and offers sound encouragement. You want someone who would practice what is recommended and feels called to walk along side you during some of life's most difficult moments. If this is where you are beginning, consider starting here.

I am glad you are here, taking steps toward putting yourself first. As a clinical therapist, I provide a person-centered approach to therapy, by creating a supportive and encouraging environment to help you move towards your optimal health. It is my belief that we need to develop protective parts to help us navigate through traumatic and stressful times. Our past can keep us stuck in old patterns. My goal is that together we reprocess past experiences to recreate new, healthier patterns for relationships, or other vulnerable areas in your life.

Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” -Barack Obama. We receive constant messages that if you are not feeling happy something is wrong. But is this fair? Over 50% of us will suffer with a mental health condition in our lifetime! This suggests suffering is not pathological, but rather a universal experience. The fact you are human guarantees you will experience pain. Sadly, sometimes our well-intended efforts to avoid pain can unintentionally lead to more suffering. Across time we can lose touch with what matters to us most and our quality of life goes down. We can become stuck in an unnecessary battle with ourselves, and all the while life continues to go by.
