My clinical expertise includes working with children, adolescents, and adults with a range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, self-esteem, boundaries, compassion fatigue, life transitions, and family and relationship issues. I believe therapy is not "one-size fits all", and will meet you where you are emotionally, while assisting you in finding a way that works for you in healing and moving forward.

Licensed in Nebraska, Colorado, and Minnesota Hello! I am Stephanie and my passion is working with women and teenage girls who have experienced trauma and are ready to move forward from the effects of it. Getting through the day can be a struggle after trauma occurs. It can feel like your personality completely changes. Like you are unseen, unheard, and a burden. You have tried navigating these feelings on your own, but need more support. Maybe this is occurring to your teenager and you want to ensure they are getting the right help at the right time.

I love the concept of developing "grit". Learning how to overcome the obstacles and emotions that stand in our way. Let me help you deal with the inevitable anxiety and frustrations we face and develop the skills that help you deal with them. Perseverance, flexibility and adaptability gets us farther than intelligence, skill and luck ever will or ever have. If you are sick and tired of being sick and tired...I can help. Some days we need a cheerleader with pom poms; some days, we may need a "kick in the butt" or a nudge. All days we want to feel understood, accepted and validated. I am known as being both direct and kind.

My main areas of focus are depression, anxiety, phobias, complex trauma, PTSD, substance abuse, self-harm, chronic pain, dual diagnosis, behavior disorders, and severe and persistent mental illness.
“Healing does not mean the damage never existed. It means the damage no longer controls our lives.” Everyone deserves to live their absolute best life. Challenges may arise, however, that are difficult to overcome. You may be seeking help because you are experiencing pain, fear, anxiety, or a sense of hopelessness. You may feel stuck around a particular issue or unable to let go of events from the past. I understand how frightening and isolating these feelings can be. As your therapist, I will be honored to hear your story and offer my support and care as I help you develop the skills needed to reach your goals.

Online sessions in CA, IN, FL, NE, and VA via HIPAA-secure telehealth portal. When talk therapy is not enough... Clients often find me when they've had some experience with traditional therapy and have gotten some benefit from it, but there is still something getting in their way. They frequently say "I know what I need to do, but I just can't seem to do it." Using trauma-informed therapies like EMDR Therapy, Brainspotting, Internal Family Systesm (IFS), and Trauma Release Exercises (TRE), we focus on resolving old wounds and stumbling blocks so you can live the life you long to have.

Life is a journey. How often have you heard that? As we find our road through life, we all need inspiration and guidance. Having an outside perspective to navigate that journey can help us view our path through a different lens. It is my goal as your therapist to create a safe, supportive, and accepting environment for you to share your story. I believe that there is no one-size-fits-all approach for therapy. Whether it's learning coping skills, practicing mindfulness, or just having someone to talk to, I get it. Life isn't easy and you don't have to tackle this journey alone.

As a therapist I enjoy working with a variety of groups. I do individual, family and couples therapy, but particularly enjoy working with teens and young women. I enjoy empowering youth while they transition through their developmental tasks and into adulthood. I enjoy working with individuals interested in overcoming obstacles and developing their true potential. I utilize a combination of psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral approaches to meet the needs of my clients. With unconditional support, we can examine ourselves and learn to move forward to meet our personal goals.

I work best with adolescent and adult clients who appreciate a direct, to-the-point approach. I give lots of feedback and make my thoughts known. This approach tends to open up awarenesses that may have been unknown for a very long time. It is exciting to see this process unfold in individual psychotherapy.

I work with individuals, couples, families, adolescents, children, and LGBTQs. I like to delve into the depression, anxiety, or whatever is troubling you to get at and transform, moving towards a productive satisfying life. I'm good at getting at the potential, power, genius, and strength which lies within, surfacing creativity, health, and well being. Usually, when one discovers their potential it is like dropping a pebble in the calm lake, rippling goodness for all around them.

Many of us did not grow up knowing that it was important - and okay - to take care of our mental health. We heard talking about going to the doctor when you are sick, but nothing about seeking counseling - therapy - when our thoughts, feelings, or behaviors aren't well. But seeing a therapist is just as important and normal as visiting your doctor. Our minds and bodies are one, endlessly affecting one another both positively and negatively. If we are unwell physically, then our mental health can suffer AND vise versa.

Hi, I’m Joana, a child and family therapist. I’m so glad you’re here. Taking the step to seek support shows how much you care, and it’s often the hardest step. Parenting can be rewarding but also overwhelming. As a mom, I understand how challenging it can feel, and you don’t have to do it alone.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
