Life can be difficult to navigate through and no one should feel like they have to do it alone. I have discovered that building a supportive and enthusiastic relationship through therapy, can create a safe place to explore life struggles, understand difficult issues, develop new skills, enrich relationships, and work through situations to lead a more successful life and move forward. I believe that within a safe, trust-filled therapeutic relationship , people can decide upon and implement the changes necessary to improve their lives. My goal is for you to feel understood, validated, and free of judgement.

With nonjudgmental perspective exploration I address depression/anxiety, relationship issues, grief/loss, and complex PTSD.
“Start close in…” What in you is hungry for answers? What might your life look like if you were deeply well fed by your choices? People come to me with hunger pangs. They're hungry for deep connection - to themselves, to a partner , to a job, to their life. They come to me craving answers - carrying persistent questions that may be contributing greatly to feelings of starvation, of wanting more. I partner with people who are searching for clarity, purpose, and more meaningful connections both personally and professionally. My clients seek to be better nourished by their life choices and feel more balanced in their relationships.

I have 17 years of experience working in the mental health field in residential, outpatient, in-home, and hospital settings. The majority of that time has been spent working with individuals, children, and families dealing with trauma, abuse, relationship conflicts, depression, and anxiety, among other issues. My style begins with being person-centered. I don't believe there are cookie-cutter answers to life's challenges, so I begin by learning about you and what will best help you achieve your own goals.

I believe that the first relationship we must embrace is the one we have with ourselves.
Modern life is stressful. We often feel like we don't have enough time, enough money, enough energy, or enough confidence in ourselves. We spend too much time feeling anxious or depleted. There is an alternative to the constant, unrelenting treadmill and chaos. There is another way of being present in your life and available to those you love. I practice Mindfulness-Based Psychology and Mindful Self-Compassion. By learning these skills, you can begin to slow down, befriend yourself, and make choices that reflect and further your values and dreams, rather than those imposed on you.

I have the training to help women and couples process their most intimate challenges. Sexuality is a huge part of person's life and can have so much power over a person or relationship . I want to help women and couples find sexual happiness. I take a un-biased, honest, collaborative and open approach to treatment. I want individuals to find the best sexual self they can be. At this time my practice and research is focused on couples and women. I do not treat men individually at this time.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
