Open for new clients at Heartwise Support, which is in network with BCBS and Medicaid. I particularly enjoy working with college students, young professionals, and adults in life transitions. I have experience supporting adolescents, adults, and elder adults with managing anxiety, depression, caregiver stress, grief, death and dying, family conflict, and relationship issues. I have served individuals with developmental disabilities in the role of therapist and caregiver. Through my work as a hospice social worker, I have guided patients at the end of their lives, and their families, with finding physical and emotional comfort.

Abraham Maslow once said “In any given moment, you have two options, step forward into growth, or backward into safety.” Each take courage and self reflection and I want to help you evaluate both. I am here to help you live a life of meaning and value. I provide therapy in a nonjudgmental, confidential, and compassionate atmosphere. We all feel stuck or lost at times, perhaps clueless of the way ahead. Through therapy, we can collaborate to rework the issues holding you back. Together, we can create a path to your most valued and meaningful living.

In today’s world, it can feel like everyone is just trying to get by, weighed down by stress and challenges. But we weren’t made to merely survive; we were meant to thrive. If you’re struggling with substance abuse, you’re not alone. Many people face the chaotic impact of addiction, including: Legal Issues, Health Complications, Strained Relationships, and Self-worth.

I want to create a safe and supportive atmosphere where people can discuss their lives freely without fear of judgement. While the specific goals of therapy are always decided by the client, my overarching goals with each person is that they will come to understand their worth as an individual, and will find freedom to fully engage with life. I believe in not only addressing issues that hold people back, but also in exploring their unique strengths and interests.

You’ve been through so much. And now, you’re hurting—unsure if things will ever truly get better. Trauma can change everything: how you see yourself, how you relate to others, and how you move through the world. You might feel disconnected, like you’re watching your life from the outside. You want to live fully in the present, but the past keeps interfering—affecting your relationships, your work, and your sense of peace. You’ve tried to cope. You’ve read the books, watched the videos, maybe even talked to someone. But nothing seems to reach the core of what’s holding you back. What you need now is real relief.

Hi! My name is Emily, and I'm an LMHP in Nebraska, Iowa, and Missouri. I provide services to individuals and couples looking for support with navigating life and the ups and downs it has to offer. My clinical expertise includes working with children, adolescents, and adults with a range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, self-esteem, boundaries, compassion fatigue, life transitions, and family and relationship issues. I believe therapy is not "one-size fits all", and will meet you where you are emotionally, while assisting you in finding a way that works for you in healing and moving forward.

Codependency Therapists
What therapy types help with codependency problems?
Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?
Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?
Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?
One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
