What I love most about being a therapist is the real adventure of self-discovery and growth I get to accompany folks on. Although neither of us can predict the exact course, I am confident in the processes that can support you in overcoming depression, anxiety, stagnation, and beyond. My work is informed by relational psychodynamic theory, emotion-focused therapy (EFT), somatic therapy, parts work, and Buddhist psychology. I work with individuals, couples, and groups ages 16 and older.

The thought of starting therapy can feel intimidating, especially when you or someone you love is already carrying a lot of emotional weight. Finding a therapist who feels safe, supportive, and trustworthy matters deeply. Parenting, relationships, work, family—all of it—often stirs up deep, unexpected emotions. My approach is to guide you toward understanding the root of your symptoms, so that you can begin to heal from your past and live more fully in the present.

Hi there! I’m Avien. I work with people who struggle with addiction and substance use. I offer individual sessions and IOP/Education services in-person and virtually in Lincoln, Omaha, Grand Island, and all throughout Nebraska. My availability is Monday-Sunday with times in Mornings, Afternoons, and evenings as late as 8:30 PM! I know it can feel overwhelming to be stuck in the cycle of addiction—using drugs or alcohol to numb pain, escape trauma, or just get through the day. You might feel lost, alone, or unsure of where to start, but you don’t have to do this by yourself.

As a child of immigrants I understand the experiences of living in two worlds. I bring a compassionate, culturally nuanced approach to mental health care. I approach every client with genuine curiosity and deep respect for their unique narrative. I do this by honoring each client's unique background, and considering how their lived experiences, cultural identity, and relationships shape their current reality. Through our work together, I help clients reframe their personal narratives to recognize the inherent value in every aspect of themselves. I deeply believe that within each person lies the capacity for their own healing.

You've spent most of your life being the one who holds things together. The one who notices when something is wrong before anyone says it out loud. The one who steps in, manages, and keeps the peace, not because anyone formally asked, but because it felt necessary. Because someone had to. From the outside, this probably looks like capability. Groundedness. Maybe even strength. But on the inside, it often feels like a weight you didn't choose and can't quite put down. If this sounds familiar, you may be carrying what's sometimes called eldest daughter syndrome, a pattern of over-responsibility and self-sacrifice that develops early.
