I tend to employ Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapeutic interventions during individual therapy.
I work hand in hand with individuals and families to address goals and actively attempt to de-pathologize emotional and/or behavioral challenges that individuals struggle with. I work to actively engage those I work with to live a meaningful, valued life. I believe that my work with children often involves active involvement of family and caregivers whatever their title or status helping promote meaningful improvements. I value the need to listen to and respond to the needs of the individual or family that is present in my office and seek to help them accomplish goals as quickly as possible.

My approach is eclectic, so I work from a person-centered conceptualization, but also draw from narrative therapy, mindfulness approaches, DBT, CBT, and ACT.
Do you feel sucked into your unwanted thoughts and behaviors like quicksand in an action movie? You're not alone. I work with my clients to guide them in their journey towards escaping the quicksand of poor mental health and stress and building a solid foundation for them to stand on. Some of the concerns I address include anxiety, grief, mood disorders, sex/relationship difficulties, identity exploration, and trauma.

I use a variety of therapy modalities that include ACT, CBT, EMDR, Theraplay, and play therapy techniques.
Mental health has always carried stigma; most commonly people learn at an early age, "we don't talk about it." Differing events in life can cause symptoms of depression, anxiety, and many other mental health conditions. Whether you are struggling with an adjustment period or need help processing years of trauma, I can help you. My passion is within helping individuals and families reach their full potential and goals.

Anyone I connect with can trust in my guidance to give you that extra push towards ending painful patterns, gaining healthy insight into blind spots and working toward self- acceptance.
Getting the most from a therapeutic experience can depend on: one's willingness to be transparent, plan to set clear expectations, ability to keep an open mind and desire to do the work. As a counselor, I aspire to be a confidant who can help others tap into their own wisdom to become more in tune with themselves.

I approach issues most often through an ACT, DBT, and existentialist lens.
Hey, I'm Evelynn! I enjoy working with a variety of issues, but I'm especially passionate about working with gender expansive clients. I'm a transgender woman, and my experiences inform how I approach treatment. I enjoy helping folks crystallize identity and develop a stronger sense of self. There are no wrong answers, but we'll work together to find one you can appreciate. I also have found neurodivergence and eating disorders as additional specialties through working with the queer community.

When building acceptance around the reality of problems facing families, and focusing on objectives that improve wellness, change can occur.
I specialize in behavior disorders, ADHD, Autism, family conflict, adjustment, psychological evaluations, depression, and anxiety. Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
