Let’s learn to put your fears into words and break down the dissonance between who you are and who you want to be.
Especially in difficult times, it can be hard to find sources of acceptance, affirmation, and healing. Often the people closest to us - family, classmates, and co-workers, don't accept us for who we are. Perhaps we are gifted and see the world differently, in a new relationship and scared of old mistakes, navigating parenting or co-parenting, or are trying to better understand ourselves and our past. Whatever the reason, we also desire to be happy, whole, and loved - and especially to become something more than what we are. Trauma can hold us back at any age - creating negative habits and barriers to our growth and happiness.

In today’s busy world, it can feel like life is slipping through your fingers. Maybe you’re overwhelmed, overloaded, and just waiting for a moment of relief. Sometimes hopelessness creeps in, making it hard to find motivation or even know what direction to go. Other times, you may simply long for something more—more meaning, more connection, more joy. We all want relationships that feel genuine, days that feel fulfilling, and still the space to rest and play. Balancing it all is hard, and you don’t have to do it on your own.

You are using every coping skill in your toolkit, but things do not seem to be getting any better or easier for you. You feel like you have lost your way, and you don’t know how to find your way back. You want to gain clarity and understanding about yourself and your relationships because it seems that you are in an unhelpful cycle. You want to find a space where you can share how you feel freely without worrying about the reactions of others. You feel overwhelmed with the competing demands of work, family and friends. It feels like there is not “enough of you” to go around.

Anxiety Therapists
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
