Are "Moody", "Overly Sensitive", or "Needy"- words people use to describe you, or maybe how you describe yourself? Do you feel like your life is one stressful event after another? Does it seem like no one 'gets' you or people have given up on you? If you are looking for a therapist who wants to help you understand your moods/feelings and improve your relationships, I might be the one for you. Our feelings and behaviors can be impacted by our genetics or trauma. Either way, you can learn to manage them before they manage you!

***Telehealth Sessions Available. I believe in taking a systemic approach to therapy, focusing on how we are shaped by emotional, physical, social and spiritual parts of our lives. If one area is being affected the others will be affected as well. I help people look at areas in their lives where they feel stuck and help to create movement in those areas. Using the client's expertise in their own lives I help guide them in creating new, more meaningful and beneficial patterns in their lives. In turn this helps them to reach their full potential.

That may look like repairing what has been broken, determining whether to divorce, or, if newly divorced, helping make this transition—and, perhaps, co-parenting—as amicable as possible.
The modality I often use is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Distorted and automatic thoughts often lead to negative emotions and behaviors, keeping us stuck and creating barriers to connecting with our authentic self and with others. CBT aims to reframe these thought patterns and replace them while providing clients with problem-solving skills to cope.

Changes in the family structure, through a breakup, divorce, or death of a family member, often create confusion and unexpressed feelings in kids.
When kids start lashing out, disrespecting authority, isolating or hurting themselves, or not caring how their words and behaviors impact others, they need professional help. I'll take the time to see what's really going on and give them tools to better express themselves instead of act out.

I have experience working with separation and divorce, parenting challenges, men's issues, sexual trauma, and the long-term impact of growing up in chaotic family systems.
My approach to therapy is structured and grounded in real life. Sessions are active and collaborative, with attention to boundaries, coping, and clear decision-making. I work at a pace that supports the individual, particularly during times of stress or transition. For many clients, this involves returning to long-standing patterns and their impact.

I appreciate people who care and are engaged, but may need a little help. We are all intelligent, creative, funny and loving. Sometimes, all you need is help finding that path. I like people who are willing to be open and give it a try. This may look like an individual looking to face changes, or maybe a couple looking to learn how to communicate or find that lost spark. In other cases, this may involve business partners or family members learning how to trust one another. I like to work with people who are willing to do the work.

Divorce Therapists
How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?
Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.

What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?
There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioral, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.

When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?
When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.

How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
