Beginning the journey of therapy can be a difficult process but incredibly rewarding and life changing; it can assist you to discover parts of yourself that you may not have known existed. Further daunting can be the unknowns of what therapy can look like. I hope I may ease these unknowns by sharing what you can expect from working with me. My approach to counseling is very collaborative, where we first begin with gathering your narrative of what makes you “you,” next identifying the concerns that brought you to therapy, and creating a plan to address the concerns and assist you in growing towards the path and person you want to be.

Life is hard. There are so many things that can happen in our lives that result in us feeling stressed, overwhelmed, anxious, and depressed. Whether you have been experiencing a lot of changes, recently had a loss, have been struggling with mental health symptoms for as long as you can remember, or have been through traumatic experiences, you deserve to be heard. You deserve to process your thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a safe place. You deserve to work on your personal goals and overcome barriers. Life is hard, but you are capable of doing hard things!

I believe that the client should determine the goals for therapy, based on their particular concerns. Each client identifies how they would determine whether counseling was successful at the beginning of treatment. These become the therapeutic goals for our sessions. We typically meet weekly at the beginning of therapy and less frequently as therapy continues. Our sessions are 50 minutes long and we contract with most of the major insurance providers in the Lincoln, Nebraska area. We don't prescribe medications in our office and are happy to collaborate with medical providers and others (with a release of information).

My passion for helping others began from understanding the unique perspective that children have in the family system and how they are affected by issues within the family unit. I hold this idea when working with adults on family and individual issues. It is my belief that our childhood experiences write on the slate of who we are and can continue to impact functioning into adulthood. I take a family systems perspective when working with families and individuals to explore past pain, harness strengths that have been developed, and discover how our life story develops a sense of identity.

Therapy can be the catalyst for healing and transformation, assisting you in unlearning the harmful beliefs and unhealthy coping mechanisms that may be impacting you and your intimate relationships. It can enable you to live a life where you feel empowered, confident, and equipped to know you can define the story of your own life. I utilize an insight and solution-oriented lens in order to encourage positive changes in how you relate to yourself and to your most important relationships. Care with me is approached holistically and through a trauma-informed lens.

Hello there. I have a diverse clinical background and am here to help. I have worked for agencies who specialize in in-home therapy with children and their parents. I have worked with children of all ages and am passionate about helping young people and their parents navigate their challenges. avigate their difficult journeys. I use a practical solutions focused and CBT approach and don't genuinely believe that children need to be in therapy for years at a time. With the right tools and resources in place, children will do amazing things!

The idea that sustainable happiness is an unattainable goal, is a tricky one. It's that thing we say to ourselves: "if I just ____ then I will be happy ...or if they just ____ then I will be happy." I prefer the idea of moving toward being more content. Isn't content what we feel when we are comfortable, calm, validated and without anxious or depressive thoughts that mess with our days? Often, if not almost always, we have traumas (big or small) and mean/sad/negative inner voices and thoughts that, if we process them, we can get to our contentedness.

I began working in Mental Health 30 years ago in Chicago and I found my calling. I provide counseling and support to a variety of individuals. I work with individuals who live with schizophrenia, psychotic disorders, bipolar, depression, anxiety, personality disorders, trauma and grief. Clients want to be heard, to be validated that their experiences are real, their experiences are hard and painful. With support and a non judgmental environment , clients can learn ways in which to manage their symptoms, reduce them and recover.
